Did the Freedom Caucus Stop Taking Sean Hannity’s Calls?

(Before It's News)

Sean Hannity is busy threatening to kick butt and take names, calling for the head of Paul Ryan to be delivered on a silver platter. After last night’s debate, Hannity said Ryan was a “saboteur” and needed to be replaced, saying members of the conservative House Freedom Caucus could take his spot. The Washington Examiner reached out to see if they were interested.

The talk show host said Reps. Jim Jordan of Ohio, Mark Meadows of North Carolina and Louie Gohmert of Texas make the top of his list of potential replacements.

But Thursday morning, all three denied any interest in mounting bids to take the speaker’s chair when asked by the Washington Examiner.

Meadows said he’s focused on keeping his swing state red. Jordan’s spokesman insists the Freedom Caucus chairman is focused on his own race. And a Gohmert aid said her boss “has no knowledge of any plans to run for speaker.”

The Freedom Caucus simply does not have the strength or the ability to unseat Ryan right now. They are few, and they aren’t exactly the most popular guys in Washington D.C. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing, mind you, but when such a trick – one they’ve already pulled once, mind you – requires support and strength in numbers, they have to pick smart battles.

And this isn’t one of them.

I mean, there may be a hope that the members of the caucus are also not thrilled with the idea of Trump, but there is a bigger chance that they know a power play right now is a bad idea. More importantly, if they don’t know that, they need to learn soon. Dumb decisions by conservatives only make getting conservatives into office that much more difficult.
