Battle for Mosul on Tuesday: Artillery Fire Starts Hitting ISIL inside Mosul

Military campaign by the Iraqi military troops to liberate the city of Mosul continued on Tuesday with army sources reporting that government troops are within a distance of only 3 km from the Eastern edge of the ISIL-held city now and have started shelling ISIL’s positions in its last stronghold in Iraq, Mosul.

Iraqi Security Forces 3km Away from Mosul’s East

A security source revealed that the Iraqi security forces are within the distance of only 3 km from the Eastern edge of the ISIL-held city of Mosul.

“After the liberation of the villages of Terawa and Al-Muwafaqiya by the Iraq’s counter-terrorism unit, the Iraqi forces’ task before reaching Mosul is the liberation of two villages of Bazwaya and Kokajli to be able to storm Mosul from its eastern outskirts,” the source said.

The source said that the Iraqi security forces and the counter-terrorism unit have been making significant progress in their military operations to liberate Mosul from ISIL terror group.

Commander: Iraqi Artillery Fire Starts Hitting ISIL inside Mosul

Iraqi Army and its allies started targeting ISIL’s positions inside the city of Mosul with artillery fire, Iraq’s top anti-terror commander said, as operation aimed at liberating the Northern Iraqi city from the terror outfit has entered its second week.

Abdul-Ghani Asadi, the commander of the Iraqi army’s anti-terrorism contingent, made the announcement as reports suggest that Iraqi forces have liberated more than 70 percent of the territory lying to the South of the ISIL-held Northern city of Mosul, and are weeding out explosives planted by the terrorist group on their way to the city.

On Tuesday, the joint military and volunteer forces liberated three more villages, located to the city’s South, from ISIL, the country’s war news media reported, with Tweeter pictures showing children rejoicing after the areas’ liberation.

70 Ezadi Captives Rescued from ISIL during Mosul Operation

An Iraqi source said nearly 70 Kurdish Ezadi captives have been freed from the ISIL militants since the Iraqi joint forces have launched the military operation aiming to liberate Mosul from the ISIL terror group.

The source said despite the majority of Ezadi captives have been recently moved from Mosul to Syria by ISIL militants, still there are a number of abductees in the city.

According to the source, the 70 rescued Ezadis, consisting of women and children, have been brought to safety.

ISIL Attack on Sanjar Repelled, 15 Militants Killed by Peshmerga

An ISIL attempt to attack the Northern Iraqi city of Sinjar was deterred by Peshmerga forces and more than 15 militants were killed and seven car bombs were destroyed during the clashes with ISIL terrorists near the city, a local commander said.

“Peshmerga forces foiled an attack launched by the ISIL East of the city of Sinjar, despite ISIL militants have deployed nine booby-trapped vehicles and used automatic weapons in the attack,” said Deputy Commander of Peshmerga forces in Northern Sinjar, Brigadier Sami Mulla Mohammed Bowseli, Iraqi News reported.

“More than 15 ISIL militants were killed, and seven car bombs were destructed during the clashes,” Bowseli added.

Report: ISIL Terrorists Fleeing to Western Mosul

The ISIL terrorists started fleeing to the Western part of Mosul as Iraq’s joint military forces are inching closer to enter the city, media reports said.

“As Iraqi forces are approaching Mosul from several directions, most of the ISIL terrorists have escaped towards Western Mosul,” the Arabic-language al-Sumeria News channel quoted a source as saying.

The source said that the ISIL has planted mines and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) on the bridges and roads leading to Eastern Mosul to prevent the Iraqi government forces’ advance.

Commander: Iraqi Army, Volunteer Forces Win Back Key Region in Anbar Province

The Iraqi forces continued their military advances in Anbar province, and managed to seize back control of a strategic region from the ISIL terrorists.

“Iraq’s joint military forces took full control of al-Rataba region in the Western part of Anbar province,” Commander of Anbar Operations Esmayeel al-Mahlawi announced on Tuesday.

He noted that the mop-up operations are still underway in al-Rataba region.

Meantime, member of Anbar Provincial Council Azal al-Fahdavi told FNA that the Iraqi forces are in full control of al-Rataba region.

Senior MP: US Helping ISIL to Flee Mosul to Syria’s Raqqa

Officials in Damascus expressed deep worries about the United States’ deliberate moves to help ISIL terrorists to flee to Raqqa in Syria from the city of Mosul in Iraq’s Nineveh province.

“The US has opened the Southern side of Mosul city to the terrorists to allow them run away from Iraq to Syria,” Syrian Legislator and Professor of International Law at Damascus University Mohammad Kheir Akam told FNA on Tuesday.

He said that the US fighter jets could easily target the terrorists’ military convoys, but allow them to cross the border into Syria, to make yet another instance of Washington’s full-fledged cooperation with the terrorists.

Akam reiterated that putting an end to the terrorism crisis in Syria and the region is only possible through cooperation with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and the country’s army.

He underlined the Syrian army’s ability to uproot terrorism in all parts of Syria, and said, “Other countries may also launch effective cooperation with Syria in the campaign against terrorism.”

In relevant remarks in mid-April, the Iraqi volunteer forces’ commanders lashed out at the US and its regional allies for continuing their military and logistical supports for the ISIL Takfiri terrorists in Iraq.

“Washington is still continuing its military supports for the terrorists in Iraq,” Spokesman of Iraq’s Ansarullah al-Nujaba Movement Hashem al-Moussavi told FNA.

He reiterated that al-Nujaba Movement forces are collecting documents, photos and videos of supplies airdropped by the US-led coalition forces for the ISIL terrorists in Iraq.

“Our forces have filmed the US aircraft while dropping military aids for the besieged ISIL terrorists,” al-Moussavi said.

He reiterated that while the ISIL was losing the battle, they continued fighting the volunteer forces for 48 hours after they received mortar shells and weapons airdropped by the US warplanes.

Meantime, member of Iraq’s Seyed al-Shohada battalions’ politburo Hassan Abdel Hadi said the Iraqi volunteer forces are concerned about coming under further attacks of the US warplanes in order to prevent their advances in different parts of the ISIL-controlled areas.

“Unfortunately, there are still some people in Iraq who have been deceived by the US-led coalition, while Washington supports the ISIL and is trying to compensate for the damages done to the Takfiri terrorists by the volunteer forces,” Abdel Hadi said.

Syrian General: Syrian Army, Kurds Ally to Push Back Turkey from Al-Bab in Northern Aleppo

The Syrian government troops and Kurdish fighters have formed a coalition to stand against Turkish army’s incursion into Northern Syria, a retired Syrian army general said.

“We will see the start of military operations towards Northern and Northeastern Aleppo province near al-Bab city in order to block the Turkish army and the Turkish-backed militants’ approach to the strategic city,” Retired Syrian Army General Heisam Hassoun told FNA on Tuesday.

He pointed to the Turkish army’s military operations in Northern, Northwestern and Northeastern parts of Syria, and said, “The Syrian army has dispatched forces towards al-Bab city since the liberation of the Eastern parts of Aleppo city three months ago, but it postponed further advances to help other army units fortify their military positions in the Southern and Southeastern parts of al-Bab and Daber cities.”

He said that the Syrian army and the Kurdish and Arab popular defense forces have been working to work out an alliance in Northern Syria since late September, adding, “These forces have initiated action since Monday to push back the Turkish army in the North.”

In mid-October, a prominent Syrian analyst said the army and its allies will move to free the strategic city of al-Bab after wining full control over Aleppo city.

“End of the Aleppo battle will focus efforts on al-Bab which is the most important and last ISIL base in Northern Aleppo province, a city that despite tough clashes between the warring sides, neither the Kurds nor the Turkish forces and their allies from the Free Syrian Army (FSA) will dare to enter, given the warnings Russia and Iran have given to the Turkish officials,” Kamal Fayyadh told FNA.

He underlined the high importance of the battle in al-Bab, and said liberation of the city would prevent Erdogan’s control over regions between al-Rai and al-Bab and strengthen the Syrian army’s control over its Northern borders.

“The future confrontation with the ISIL in Raqqa and Deir Ezzur as well as liberation of al-Bab means seizing back more Syrian and Iraqi territories from the ISIL hand,” Fayyadh said.

Military sources announced late last month that the Syrian Army had deployed a large number of soldiers in Kuweires airbase in Eastern Aleppo to launch large-scale offensives in ISIL-held regions Northeast of the province, specially al-Bab.

“Thousands of Syrian army soldiers, previously deployed in Southern Aleppo and Northern Hama, poured into the Eastern countryside of Aleppo on Sunday and Monday, as the Syrian Army prepares for a large-scale military operation near the ISIL stronghold in al-Bab,” the sources said.
