The Debate – Lebanon Breakthrough – YouTube
It has been a long time coming: the possibility of Lebanon’s 2 and a half year long political vacuum coming to an end is on the horizon. In what some may call a surprise move, the Saudi-backed leader of the Future Movement & March 14th movement figurehead, Saad al-Hariri, has announced his support of Hezbollah-ally, Michel Aoun. Lebanon faces acute issues, such as the ever-present threat of a spillover of violence from Syria as well as the strain the large numbers of Syrian refugees place on the country. Much is being speculated about why Hariri may have chosen to support Aoun, with the possibility of him returning as prime minister being spoken of. We seek to understand the current political situation in Lebanon in this edition of the Debate.
