BBC News is reporting that the Egyptian Courts have ruled to overturn the death sentence of ex-President, Mohamed Morsi.
Egypt court overturns death sentence against ousted ex-President Mohammed Morsi, reports say
The Daily Sabath had more details:
Eqypt’s Court of Cassation overturned on Tuesday a death sentence against deposed President Mohammed Morsi of the Muslim Brotherhood and ordered a retrial.
Morsi was sentenced to death in June 2015 in connection with a mass jail break during the country’s 2011 uprising.
The first president to be democratically elected after the 2011 revolt, Morsi was overthrown in a coup led by general Abdel Fattah al-Sisi in 2013.
Morsi, who was immediately arrested after the coup, has received lengthy jail sentences related to other charges, including two high-profile espionage cases. Tuesday’s court ruling means he no longer faces execution.
This comes after the ruling was confirmed in June of this year. The change is bound to cause some uprising in parts of the Middle East. Developing… to say the least.
