Claim: Donald Trump will not investigate Hillary Clinton for crimes involving the Benghazi emails and foundation scandals.
Verdict:
Citing The New York Times reporting on their exclusive interview with Donald Trump, the corporate media widely reported yesterday that Donald Trump will not investigate Hillary Clinton regarding her email and foundation scandals.
Further perpetuating the false reports, Trump transitions team members defended Trump’s position not knowing Trump never stated he was dropping the investigations.
The full audio transcripts show the New York Times reporting on Trump’s statement are false.
The transcripts instead show Trump stated while he is not making the investigations a priority and that he is not seeking revenge to hurt the Clintons he is also not taking the investigations into the emails or the foundation off of the table.
Example:
This widely reported story in the corporate media was originated from the New York Times following an interview with Donald Trump yesterday.
NY Times: Donald Trump Drops Threat of New Hillary Clinton Investigation
Since that interview the New York Times has released the full audio of the meeting and the reporters who conducted the interview have released a podcast discussing the interview.
In the audio transcript of the interview, Times Political reporter stated to Trump Kellyanne Conway talked with the media earlier in the day about not prosecuting Hillary Clinton over scandals involving the emails or the foundation.
Trump responded by stating by clarifying that what the report merely stated he was not enthused about pursuing prosecution.
Trump went on to reiterate previous statements that hurting the Clintons is not a high priority issue to him and he is more concerned with focusing on policy issues and moving the country forward.
New York deputing managing editor Matthew Purdy the pushed Trump to further clarify his response and asked Trump directly if he would be taking the investigation of the table.
Trump affirmatively responded that he was not taking the investigation off the table. Clearly this means the possibility for investigation is still on the table and Hillary may end up being prosecuted.
Purdy then followed up asking whether it was the email or foundation investigation that Trump would not be taking off the table.
Trump responded “No, no” meaning both investigations are still on the table.
Trump completed his response reiterating yet again while the investigations are still on the table they are just not something he feels strongly about.
