Gowdy Blasts Critics of FBI Director Comey and the Announcement of New Email Investigation

(Before It's News)

Weighing in on the controversy surrounding FBI Director James Comey’s reveal that they were reopening the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s emails, based on newly discovered evidence, South Carolina Representative Trey Gowdy shut down criticism from fellow Republican, Jim Jordan, of Ohio, as well as others.

Appearing on “Fox & Friends” Tuesday morning, Gowdy said he disagreed with Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, who said on Monday that Comey erred by making the announcement this close to a presidential election. The South Carolina Republican argued that the FBI director had “no choice” but to tell members of Congress what is taking place.

“I think Comey had an obligation. He told Congress that the investigation was over. So new evidence came to light, he could have either sat on it and been criticized afterwards for not telling us, or he could have done the transparent thing and said, ‘look, I’m notifying you,’” Gowdy said. “He didn’t comment on the substance of the emails. He didn’t even say that it’s directly related to Secretary Clinton. He just said the investigation has reinitiated. So I viewed it as a notice document.”

This is true.

While Republicans are rushing to get the measurements for Hillary’s prison wear, they’re doing so with no real knowledge of what’s in the newly discovered emails, or what the new investigation will reveal about Clinton’s intent.

For the time being, it actually looks as if Huma Abedin, Hillary’s closest aide, may take the brunt of any hit from this.

Abedin had the emails on a device she shared with her estranged husband, Anthony Weiner. The emails were found in a separate investigation into charges that Weiner engaged in “sexting” with teenaged girls.

Gowdy put the clamor surrounding the timing of the news in perspective.

“The timing, again, is not Jim Comey’s fault. It is not his fault that this is coming up a week or so before the election,” Gowdy said. “That is Secretary Clinton’s fault.”

Passing the buck is a time-treasured tradition of the Democrat party.
