Voting in America

(Before It's News)

When most people think of voting in America, they think of the land of freedom and justice. I used to think that too. Most of that is still true but the way that our elections have changed has caused it to not be about the people but about who the people in power want to be in charge.

On Americans ballots every elected official is voted on by the people but the voting for President is ultimately determined by the electoral college. Who is the Electoral College you might ask? Well, it is made up of electors that are pick by the State. Each state determines how they are picked differently. Most are required by law to cast their vote for President based on the popular vote for the state. Some Electors are picked based on loyalty and dedication to their political party.

“Today, it is rare for Electors to disregard the popular vote by casting their electoral vote for someone other than their party’s candidate. Electors generally hold a leadership position in their party or were chosen to recognize years of loyal service to the party. Throughout our history as a nation, more than 99 percent of Electors have voted as pledged.”

So what is really being said is that the Electors are going to vote the way the party wants them to vote and they way the people that fund the parties want them to vote. Ultimately it is not important who we (the people) want to elect but the people that control the money want to be President.

So not only can our own government and our parties hand pick who they want to win the Presidency but the way we now vote (digitally) can be hacked. There is a vote counter that is used in many states that can be easily hacked. Cybersecurity business  Cylance said they were able to hack into the Sequoia AVC Edge Mk1.

There is also talk of a possible literal attack on Election Day.  ISIS/ISIL also known as the Islamic State has made threats that they are going to smash voters and election boxes. ““The counterterrorism and homeland security communities remain vigilant and well-postured to defend against attacks here in the United States,” the FBI said in a statement.”

So make sure you vote. Even if any of these things can and will happen, it doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t vote.
