Chris Christie Approval Plummets; Majority Think He Should Have Been Indicted In Bridgegate
Chris Christie’s stock has fallen faster than the Blackberry did several years ago. Christie, who after winning reelection in 2013 by a significant margin in the blue state of New Jersey was considered a frontrunner for the 2016 GOP Presidential nomination. Now, he’s teetering on the edge of disaster in the polls that a December 2008, George W. Bush could laugh at.
Eighteen percent of registered voters approve of Governor Christie’s job performance, while the vast majority disapprove (73%). And, under his leadership, sizable numbers express concern over the direction the state is headed. Only 20 percent are content with the state’s direction. Seventy percent believe the state is heading down the wrong path. These numbers are largely unchanged from October, when 21 percent approved of the governor and 20 percent evaluated conditions in the state favorably.
Yuck. Poor Christie was the first Republican candidate to back Donald Trump, and he’s getting nothing out of it. There were rumors of a VP selection at first, but it went away. Then Christie was leading the transition. He had that yanked out from under him. When he realized he wasn’t up for a cabinet position, he floated the idea of running for head of the RNC.
Worse yet for Christie, most people think he should have been a defendant in the Bridgegate case:
Even though there was no evidence that Christie knew of or approved the traffic plot, the Fairleigh Dickinson University PublicMind poll released Tuesday said 71% of registered voters thought the governor should have been at the defense table beside his former deputy chief of staff, Bridget Anne Kelly, and Bill Baroni, former deputy executive director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Both were convicted last month of all charges against them; a third, former agency executive David Wildstein, who grew up with Christie, pleaded guilty.
Can’t say I feel sorry for the guy.
