Chris Christie to Priebus: Let White House Counsel Handle The FBI From Now On

(Before It's News)

It’s hard not to wonder if maybe New Jersey Governor Chris Christie might still be a tad raw over being passed over for the VP nod on the Trump ticket.

In fact, while most figured Christie would be rewarded with some prime Cabinet position, due to his dutiful service to Trump, after dropping his presidential bid, he was pretty kicked to the curb.

That hasn’t stopped him from chiming in, from time to time.

On Sunday, Christie spoke up about reports that White House Chief of Staff, Reince Priebus, reaching out to the FBI to ask them to abstain from speaking about the connection between Russia and players in the Trump campaign.

“I don’t think Reince thought he was doing anything wrong. I really don’t. And I have absolute confidence in his integrity, but you need to have the sense of a prosecutor when you’re dealing with these issues, because perception matters,” Christie said.

Christie said the White House counsel should have those conversations with the FBI if deemed necessary, not Trump’s non-legal advisers.

Christie is a former U.S. Attorney, so he may be hinting at something, there.

What could have been, right Governor?

While appearing on CNN, Christie was asked by anchor Jake Tapper if Attorney General Jeff Sessions should step aside, if there was a call for a special investigation.

Sessions jumped on the Trump train early, and there is a question about his ability to remain impartial in any investigation into the connection of Russia to Trump’s campaign.

“No. No, I don’t because the Justice Department, over the course of time, has shown itself with the professionals that are there to have the ability to investigate these type of things,” said Christie, the former New Jersey attorney general. “And this is with a Republican or a Democrat, we’ve seen it happen on both sides.”

Christie feels special prosecutors cause things to get out of hand.

“That doesn’t serve anybody’s purposes. We have a lot of important things to deal with in this country. I’m not saying that’s not one of them, but I believe the Justice Department can handle it,” Christie added.

Christie was responding to Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), who said on Friday that Sessions should recuse himself and allow for a special prosecutor to handle any legal actions that could possibly arise from an investigation into the Trump-Russia connection.

Cart before the horse, Sir.

Now I’m curious to see how Christie would respond if something actually did pop up after an investigation.
