It’s probably not fair. If people did it to a left wing woman it would be condemned as misogyny. However we live in a country where Republicans simply can’t get away with any sort of gaffe. That’s not fair either, but it’s not going to change any time soon. Republicans just need to be better and not give their opponents free ammunition.
