(Before It's News)

A majority of Republicans believe Barack Obama wiretapped Donald Trump.

According to a new CBS poll, 74 percent of Republican voters agreed with President Trump’s claim that former President Obama wiretapped him last year during the 2016 presidential election.

Just 21 percent of Democratic voters believe President Trump’s claim.

The poll — which surveyed 1,088 people — also found that a majority of voters believe members of the Trump campaign had “improper communications” with Russian government officials during the 2016 election.

59 percent of voters believe it likely happened, while 37 percent said it likely did not.

More importantly, the poll found that 63 percent of voters deemed it necessary to “investigate ties between the Trump campaign and Russia during the election.”

The poll comes after Trump tweeted earlier this month that Obama had his “wires tapped” at Trump Tower in New York City in 2016.

FBI Director James Comey said last week that the Department of Justice has “no information” to substantiate Trump’s claims.

Trump has stood by the allegations levied against Obama and it appears that an overwhelming majority of Republican voters believe the claim to be true.

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes revealed last week in a brief press conference that an intelligence source confirmed to him that the U.S. intelligence community “incidentally surveilled” Trump’s transition team before the president took office.

Nunes chose to reveal the information to Trump and indicated that he will not share the findings with the other members of the Intelligence Committee.

His moves to subvert the Intelligence Committee while taking an ill-advised trip to the White House have led to calls from Democrats for Nunes to recuse himself from the Russian probe.
