With One Day Left, House Conservatives Still Reject The Obamacare Replacement Bill
They can only afford to lose 22 votes, if they want to see the Obamacare replacement bill pass on Thursday.
To date, 25 Republicans are still saying their vote is “No.”
As was reported yesterday, the House Freedom Caucus remain firmly opposed to what they see as a weak and ineffectual alternative to the ironically named Affordable Care Act.
Speaking to reporters outside a Freedom Caucus meeting after a meeting between Trump and some of the group’s members, the group called on leaders to start over on ObamaCare, saying the replacement bill does not have the votes to pass Thursday.
“The opposition is still strong,” said Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.), the chairman of the group.
“They don’t have the votes to pass this tomorrow. We believe that they need to start over and do a bill that actually reduces premiums.”
With the vote moving forward tomorrow, expect it to get lively.
Trump has threatened that anyone who doesn’t stand with he and the establishment Republicans who back the bill will see their careers in Washington shot down in the 2018 midterms.
Tomorrow may hold some surprises, as some firm “No” votes may be persuaded to flip at the last minute.
Don’t be surprised if some “Yes” votes suddenly balk and run, as well.
As it looks now, however, it doesn’t look good.
