In NY Times Interview, Trump Exaggerates A Claim By Leaving Out Context
What is it about Donald Trump and his inability to tell the truth about anything? Even when he says something with a hint of truth, he leaves out important context, and it makes him look like a fool.
He said the following in his interview with Maggie Haberman and Glenn Thrush:
TRUMP: Elijah Cummings [a Democratic representative from Maryland] was in my office and he said, “You will go down as one of the great presidents in the history of our country.”
HABERMAN: Really.
TRUMP: And then he went out and I watched him on television yesterday and I said, “Was that the same man?”
Except that is not what Cummings said.
Cummings issued a statement:
“During my meeting with the president and on several occasions since then, I have said repeatedly that he could be a great president if — if — he takes steps to truly represent all Americans rather than continuing on the divisive and harmful path he is currently on.”
That’s a pretty stark difference. It just shows President Trump has no issue with stretching the truth and if he hears anything complimentary he only hears what he wants.
