5,000 evacuated from area near Maryville train derailment. A CSX tanker car carrying Acrylonitrile derailed just after midnight Thursday morning forcing the evacuation of more than 5,000 people in an expanding evacuation zone last listed as a 2-mile radius around the site.
Fracking with the Happy People . We are used to hearing about multinational corporations manipulating political systems in the global South to eke out ever more profits from often damaging activities. We are less used to stories of corporations deploying similar tactics of cooption and power grabbing in societies considered the richest and most developed on the planet.
