(Before It's News)

Nailed To The Cross, Bus Drivers Demand Worker Rights. In Paraguay, 14 people have crucified themselves and are partaking in a partial hunger-strike after 51 bus drivers were fired for forming a labor union. For the past 21 days, twelve men — all fired bus drivers — and two women — the wives of fired bus drivers — have nailed their hands to wooden crosses outside the offices of their employer. Three additional workers joined them 12 days ago and have clamped their mouths shut with long, rustic, curved nails to demonstrate how their bosses wants to keep them silent.

Black Unionists Try to Save South Africa From Becoming a Failed State. South African labor leaders speak of the betrayal by the ruling African National Congress in failing to implement the 1955 Freedom Charter, which contained the core values of the coalition that fought against the apartheid regime, and of the deleterious impact of neoliberal economic policies.

ALEC, Where Corporations Are “People” Like You and Me. The author exposes the backroom secrets of ALEC (the American Legislative Exchange Council) and its municipal arm, ACCE (the American City County Exchange). He reports on the structure of the organizations and the agendas they are currently pushing.
