~~Don’t “Ground” your Bug Out Vehicle.

If you are prepping for an EMP event, DO NOT Ground your BOV! I have seen people take a piece of rebar, pound it 4 feet in the ground and take “jumper cables” then attach them to the rebar and the frame of their BOV. BIG MISTAKE! You want that energy to flow “around” your vehicle not “through” it.

As in just about everything in life, that energy is looking for the path of least resistance (and in this case) to ground, if you ground your BOV now that energy will go through your vehicle and fry everything electrical/ electronic at the least.

The Car/Truck body on most vehicles serves as a quasi-faraday cage, you can do things to improve that capacity, that’s done on a case by case basis. Cars and Trucks have been struck by lightning while moving down the road and many were still going! Some of them have been trapped by downed power lines and after the rescue have been restarted, this is because these vehicles are “self-grounded” and the tires act as insulators keeping the current from getting to ground and causing an issue. I know that some buses have grounding straps underneath them but they also are fueled by CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) which does not take much to set alight (grounded to keep sparks from happening).

So please remember you want the EMP energy to flow around not through your vehicle.
