The Yaz Resource Center is the Web’s largest source for information on Yaz research, side effects and legal news. Visit http://www.YazLawsuit.com
Dallas, TX (PRWEB) October 20, 2012
The birth control drugs Yaz and Yasmin have been linked to increased risks of blood clots, most recently when the British Medical Journal last October published a study from the University of Copenhagen highlighting Yaz side effects.
Now, Reuters has reported on September 20, 2012 that a new birth control patch made by Bayer, the company that manufacters Yaz and Yasmin, was delayed by concerns over adding label warnings for blood clots after Yaz had similar problems.
On October 27, 2011, the FDA released its own study entitled "Combined Hormonal Contraceptives and the Risk of Cardiovascular Disease Endpoints" showing drugs like Yaz could increase the risk of blood clots, DVT and pulmonary embolism by as much as 74%.
Now, a federal Multi-District Litigation court has been established in Illinois to handle Yaz lawsuits filed by those injured. The formal case is known as Yasmin and Yaz (Drospirenone) Marketing, Sales Practices and Products Liability Litigation (MDL No. 2100, Southern District Illinois). The court estimates that more than 10,000 patients have filed a claim.
Bloomberg News reported on July 31st that Bayer has resolved as many as 1900 Yaz settlements so far at an average of around $212,000 per case. They have also reserved up to $610 million to settle more of the cases, but indicated they are only settling those related to blood clots.
On September 15, 2012, Injury Lawyer News reported that Yaz settlements could cost Bayer as much as $1.2 billion.
Anyone who suffered a blood clot, DVT, stroke or Pulmonary Embolism after taking Yaz or Yasmin is urged to contact the Yaz Resource Center or speak with a lawyer about their legal options.
The news of Yaz lawsuit settlements is positive for those injured who have yet to file a claim. However, time is limited and only certain cases may qualify.
The Yaz Resource Center cautions that victims should seek a lawyer with experience in defective drug litigation, and only recommends lawyers and law firms who have already settled Yaz lawsuits.
