Fighting MS one pedal stroke at a time on her Optibike, Tricia Chandler is ready to ride.
Boulder, CO (PRWEB) October 21, 2012
Optibike is pleased to be the official bike for Tricia Chandler at this year’s BIKE MS Bay to Bay Tour 2012, a fundraiser for National MS Society.
“Since hearing about the bike back in 2007, I knew the only way I would be able to even think about riding with the team would be on a Optibike. This team has been riding for me, in my honor the last 7 years. I rode an Optibike in 2007. I was only able to ride 30 miles due to my health at the time. I am stronger now,” Chandler said.
Optibike is the worlds first electric bike designed from the ground up for a fully integrated riding experience. Optibike offers a true performance bike with a motorized bottom bracket as well as various levels of assistance.
“My challenges in the event are extreme fatigue that comes with MS, spasticity in my hands, stiffness in my neck, shoulders and back. I don't have a lot of strength, and my left side is weak - so holding the bike up safely while traveling pretty fast is challenging,” Chandler said.
The Optibike frame houses the battery inside and keeps the weight of the battery low and centered on the bike. A low center of gravity makes the Optibike the best handling electric bike in the world and allows a variety of riders the experience of cycling.
Chandler’s daily life is one with pain including left sided weakness, numb & tingly hands and feet, bladder retention requiring an implant to empty her bladder when necessary, headaches and blindness in one eye.
“I expect to ride 50 miles on Saturday and 50 miles on Sunday. I have 30 team members that will be there to support me, watch over me, and make sure I'm feeling okay and not pushing myself too hard. I'm sure since it's a very 'up and down' tour along the Southern California Coast, the hills won't be much fun. Even with the throttle (of the Optibike), it's going to be a challenge for me. I want to FINISH!”
Optibike is proud to be a part of the journey for Tricia Chandler, support the National MS Society and show that with an Optibike the fitness and freedom of cycling is available to everyone.
Chandler is riding the Helia model. Optibike is offering it at a discount to a lucky Southern California at the end of the event. Normally this Helia sells for $13,500 (with the custom one of a kind air brush paint job). Optibike is selling at the event’s conclusion for $11,500. As part of the sale, Optibike will donate $1,000 to MS Foundation.
