This led to a residency at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, where he undertook specialist colon and rectal surgery training.
In the years since then, Dr. Mellgren has become a respected authority in the field of rectal and colon surgery, and he treats a wide range of conditions including abdominal hernias, polyps of the colon, and gastrointestinal hemorrhage. His specialties, however, lie in the diagnosis and treatment of pelvic floor disorders, colon and rectal cancer, fecal incontinence, and inflammatory bowel disease. He is noted for his cutting edge approach to these conditions, including the use of minimally invasive robotic surgery.
Board certified by the Swedish Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, Dr. Mellgren is also a member of a number of societies here in the United States, including the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons.
