Toronto, ON – February 23, 2016 – Despite mounting legal battles and poor press, Uber is still vastly preferred over taxis by metropolitan millennials.

According to on-the-ground data collected by survey app QuickTapSurvey, 74.9% of the individuals surveyed prefer using Uber over taxis.

The data was collected from 1167 respondents in metropolitan hubs across North America, including New York and Toronto, using QuickTapSurvey’s convenient on-location data collection software.

The shift toward Uber may be due in part to safety concerns. Seventy-one percent of respondents reported feeling unsafe in traditional taxis, as opposed to only 7.6% of Uber riders who felt unsafe.

The change may also be generational with 86.7% of those who preferred taxis being over the age of sixty five.

Surprisingly, price was not an important factor across the board. Instead, it only mattered among the younger demographic, with 66.7% of those between ages 15-24 citing price as a concern.

Almost 60% of those in the 34-55 age bracket said that they choose Uber every time, regardless of price.

“Older riders and professionals who choose Uber seem to do so not because of price, but because of the customer service and convenience that go hand-in-hand with the app,” said QuickTapSurvey co-CEO Ravin Shah.

“The price sensitivity changed dramatically between the answers we received on university campuses to answers we collected in Toronto and New York’s financial districts.”

Still, with Uber on the rise, most respondents think that Uber and taxis should coexist.

“Today’s consumers have more power than ever,” said Shah. “The Uber vs. taxi battle goes beyond the legalities that are played up in the media. Uber is here to stay.”
