Dr. Mitchell graduated from the University of Michigan in 1974 and is board certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine. An active member of the American Board of Emergency Medicine and the American College of Emergency Physicians, he is the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including multiple awards for recognition of command response to disasters across the US and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Governor of Hawaii.

Dr. Mitchell attributes his success to hard work, persistence, situational awareness, diligence, and concern for his patients. When not assisting patients, he enjoys traveling, mountain climbing, and collecting Asian antiques and dinosaur fossils.
