What did the foolish virgins really lack?

Friday, August 5, 2011 13:56
% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

(Before It's News)

In addition to telling his disciples to love and forgive one another Jesus commanded them to watch…in fact he said "what I say to you I say to all, Watch" (Mark 13:37).

The parable of the 10 virgins has generally been described as a lack of Spirit (represented by oil) on the part of the foolish ones.  But the Spirit of God comes from him — often instantaneously — and these five virgins are depicted as making the request for oil from those similar in nature who had filled lamps.  So it's fair to consider that filling those lamps was an activity humanly possible which took time, something we are running short of as we approach the October 28, 2011 end of the Mayan Calendar.

I propose that UNDERSTANDING will be in short supply as events increasingly heat up toward the end because relatively few have taken seriously that radical change coming upon us like a woman going into labor is predicted both by the Mayan Calendar and the Scriptures.  Although no one knows exactly how things will play out on Earth in the next three months it is difficult for a student of the end times to convey in days the understanding acquired over years, and virtually impossible to those disoriented by upheaval even if learning is desired.  Everything is now available on the internet for study and consideration, please avail yourself of it.  When the wise virgins awoke and trimmed their lamps I equate that with updating their expectations of when and how a second coming would occur.

9And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.

10Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.

7 Cib [reflective wisdom]

August 5, 2011

1Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.

2And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.

3They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them:

4But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.

5While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.

6And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.

7Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.

8And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out.

9But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.

10And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.

11Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.

12But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.

13Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.

Matthew 25

Amazing what utter BS can be read into a simple sentence about being prepared.

  • Sharon,
You are precisely correct in that what the five foolish virgins lacked was knowledge. Did you notice that all ten were virgins? Meaning they were all part of Yahweh’s House..none belonging to any forbidden assemblies (churches). They had all been exposed to the truthful teachings of Yahweh’s House, having been taught at the feet of Yahweh’s last days witness to obey His 613 Laws (the correct protocol for living eternally). Whether they failed to understand or didn’t apply all that they learned they were lacking sufficient “oil” to sustain their belief and they became lukewarm. The Messiah warned that He would come at a time when He was not expected so that all awaiting His return should be prepared. Those lacking complete understanding and diligence found it was too late to acquire those qualities or that they could not be obtained instantly.

    Great post.

  • Thank you Pix, I appreciate the criticism which prompted me to later add some relevant verses from Daniel to cinch my supposition. And thank you Arthur for appreciating my best attempt to properly discern the weight of Yeshua’s message.

  • Hi Sharon!
While reading your post I couldn’t help associating the symbolism of Virgins and Oil to something only slightly different.
The word “Oil” in Hebrew is pronounced “Shemen”, and has a direct connotation to another word in English which relates to male fertility and sounds like a different word for “Sailors”.

This is not merely a likeness in sound and letter arrangement, but has biblical references as well. Any king of Israel was anointed with oil on the day he ascended the Throne of the Land. This was symbolical to his fertility and potency, by which he makes his land fertile. This ancient, world-wide ritual is still celebrated today in India during the feast of Shive-Lingum.

The Hebrew word “Massiah” literally means “The Anointed One” – The King of Kings.

    Have a great weekend,

  • Love your contribution to the discussion Eagle…in a way it brings the matter full circle when i remember the truism KNOWLEDGE IS POWER (POTENCY)

    31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
32 And ye shall KNOW the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
    John 8
