When we look at what is going on not just in America but in the whole world we have to consider one thing first and foremost and that is where are we on God’s timeline? In considering that we also have to consider what is God’s greatest concern? As a Christian I have to believe that all that controls what is happening in the world centers around what is going on with Israel. Israel is the apple of God’s eye: Zechariah 2:8 For thus saith the LORD of hosts; After the glory hath he sent me unto the nations which spoiled you: for he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of his eye. The average person sees what is happening in the Middle East as nothing more than civil unrest among the Arabs and Israel but a Christian has to look at it in a different light. Israel is all important to God. He stated that in the last days He would bring Israel back to her land never to be removed again; Amos 9:15 “And I will plant them upon their land, and they shall no more be pulled up out of their land which I have given them, saith the LORD thy God.” Notice that Israel is the only nation that God has given land to, forever, so it doesn’t make any difference who’s squatting on it now, it belongs to Israel.
We also have to remember that there is a timeline and Jesus Himself gave it. In reading the gospel of Matthew He gives us that timeline: Matthew 24:32 “Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh:
(33) So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.
(34) Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.” Knowing that the ‘fig tree’ is a reference to the nation of Israel and this reference is to the re-establishing of the nation of Israel. This means that we are deep into the last days. In reading the previous verses you will see that Jesus is talking about what will be going on in the world just before He returns. One point to make is we have seen most of all of this happening all through history but the defining benchmark is Israel being re-established as a nation. When Jesus made this comment Israel was not a nation. It had been taken over by Rome and was under Rome’s government.
Since 1947 when Israel returned to her land she has fought several wars and has won every one of them. Israel will never lose a war against them from this point on. If they do then God is a liar. Israel will have troubles, but they will never be removed from their land and God Himself will defend Israel; Zechariah 12:2 “Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem.” (3) “And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it”. Zechariah 9:15 “The LORD of hosts shall defend them; and they shall devour, and subdue with sling stones; and they shall drink, and make a noise as through wine; and they shall be filled like bowls, and as the corners of the altar.”
