Pygmalion Victory for Socialism
Previously in part one we could say the quote given by Kruschev was prophetic. Look at America today and see how the growth of socialism has been! Further in relation to Pygmalion many have found an effect that relates to it. Stalin said “if you tell a lie often and long enough, it becomes truth.” Both of these things come together in an effect known as the “self-fulfilling prophecy.” Here we find the Pygmalion effect which according to Robert Merton at Columbia University said of it “If one believes an individual, will act or react in a certain way, one will create a situation that will cause the expected behavior to occur.”
Krushev knew from his dealings with America and so did other Socialists that we were democratic, we had a constitution, and worked in a capitalistic way. He also knew that a direct approach to bring in Communism would be seen outright. There was no way a direct intervention would make America into a Socialist or Communist nation. At the time, America was one of the most powerful nations on earth. After World War II, America had shown her strength and there were no nations who could forcibly take America and make her Communist or Socialist. The Pygmalion effect also came into play in a Time magazine article on Monday September 14th, 1948. Time ran a want ad by a man named Henry Higgins who wanted a girl with “bad diction” and careless enunciation.” The ad said it was for a Radio series and it drew more than 100 replies. If you don’t recognize this, it is okay. The ad, the girl’s reference to another woman named “Eliza Doolittle”. Eliza was the lower class girl played by Wendy Hiller opposite of Leslie Howard in Pygmalion20 which was released in 1938 and was based on Shaw’s play of the same name. Years, later a movie and a play would be made called “My Fair Lady”, again another rework of Shaw’s Pygmalion. The idea again is “Metamorphoses” and goes back to Ovid’s Metamorphoses as spoke about previously. It is strange that we find this string of change throughout history and even in America and yet we missed the real truth. The change Shaw and others of his belief were pushing for was from whatever the current governmental system was to Socialism. Many in America never even knew of Shaw’s political beliefs or saw his play in that motive. What was being sought was a “gradual change.” This would be a change from a Constitutional Republic to a Democracy, and finally to a Socialist regime. Our Forefathers knew what was in man. That is why they based our national government on the constitution. Through the constitution, the nation could survive such attacks, or so they thought! As in many nations there are always those who see other forms of government better than the one the nation has. In America there were those who got the message from Shaw and pushed their Socialism through the Media. Does this sound familiar? Why don’t the media today recognize Obama’s Socialism? Because they are just like him and want it as bad as he does!
Further, on the front page of Breitbart.com the headlines were “NBC: Spielberg’s Lincoln Reminds us Obamas Awesome! 21a” Spielberg is a supporter of Barack Obama and also gave One million dollars to an Obama SuperPac to get him Re-elected21b! Is this a coincidence, not likely! Spielberg has money, power, and the movies to give a message to a divided nation. Spielberg also put out this movie right on target as the most divided; vehement elections in a long time took place. Spielberg had already chosen sides in this election, now he was going to put the finishing touches on it. The Movie says to American’s “don’t worry about Obama’s socialism, don’t worry that Obama is a Fabian Socialist; just remember he is just like Lincoln.” The message is subtle, but the kind of messages that Shaw used in his day. It is also what others have used to wear down the resistance of Americans to socialism. Spielberg is not the first director to put a political spin on things when making a movie. You can have great actors, have great script, and make the public enjoy what they see and hear. It makes them feel good! In the end the public goes away saying “that was a great movie.” While at the same time the underlying message is “Barack Obama” is a good guy, don’t mind his policies! It says don’t worry Socialism is not bad, it will help you! Remember Krushev saying that they would feed us Communism a little at a time. This is done through the philosophy of the Fabian Socialist society which we will talk about later. Spielberg’s actions to compare Obama to Lincoln did not go unnoticed!
