Earth needs solar flares to hit the atmosphere, because without them Earths atmosphere collapses making it very cold, ice age cold. Noticed from 1645 and continuing to about 1715, that a lack of suns spots corresponded to the mini ice age they experienced called the ‘Maunder minimum”.
