TWO OF THE MOST LIFE CHANGING THINGS AFTER I BECAME A CHRISTIAN
THE BIBLE ON CD
I have listened to radio preachers for years. I had listened so much that it got to the point where I knew what they were going to say before they said it. The radio teachers were a great blessing to me. J. Vernon McGee, Adrian Rogers, And Jesse Hendley were my favorites.
After I had listened to them for years and had heard most of what they had to say I needed something else.
My son had bought the Bible on CD and I thought I would borrow it and listen to the Bible all the way through as I worked or drove somewhere. I loved it. My son bought me the Bible on CD for Christmas and I went through it 12 times the first year. I now have a stack of many different versions which I have listened to over and over again.
I still read my Bible through every year because there is something about having it in your hand that I think I need.
Psalm 101:3 I will set nothing wicked before my eyes;
Within the first few months things began to change for me. I used to watch TV when I got off work. After I had been listening to the Word all day and walked by a TV it would shock me to realize that all the things the Bible said we should avoid were the very things all over the TV. I quit watching it. If someone has a TV on now it bores me to death. Everything is so shallow and dumb.
PRAYER
For many years my prayer life was piecemeal. I prayed when I had to teach and sometimes not at all. This bothered me. Then I read The House of the Seven Gables because I had heard about it all my life and just wanted to see why it was a classic. The woman in that book started every day out with prayer. That was the first thing she did before anything else. She got down on her knees and prayed. I thought that is exactly what I need to do. That was two or three years ago when I started this but I have not missed a day since. It has changed my life.

PRAYING FOR MY WIFE
I began to pray for my wife everyday. Wow! You would not believe how it makes you love your wife when you pray for her. We read or Bibles through every year using the same schedule, then we talk about what we have read in the morning. I watch in amazement at how the Lord is cleansing my wife through his word. Excuse me for wearing my feelings on my sleeve but this morning she came into my study because she had some questions about what we are reading and also to express to me that as she was reading about the New Jerusalem she had almost become overwhelmed by majesty of what is coming. God had really spoken to her through his word. I became overwhelmed too and I had to just hold her and weep.
Ephesians 5: 25-33 A husband should love his wife as much as Christ loved the church and gave his life for it. He made the church holy by the power of his word, and he made it pure by washing it with water.
Christ did this, so that he would have a glorious and holy church, without faults or spots or wrinkles or any other flaws.
In the same way, a husband should love his wife as much as he loves himself. A husband who loves his wife shows that he loves himself. None of us hate our own bodies. We provide for them and take good care of them, just as Christ does for the church, because we are each part of his body.
As the Scriptures say, “A man leaves his father and mother to get married, and he becomes like one person with his wife.” This is a great mystery, but I understand it to mean Christ and his church. So each husband should love his wife as much as he loves himself, and each wife should respect her husband.
