The ESA is seriously considering, as well as moving forward, with plans to build habitats on the moon that are life-sustaining. In an article published on Space.com, Xavier De Kestelier of Foster + Partners said, ”As a practice, we are used to designing for extreme climates on Earth and exploiting the environmental benefits of using local, sustainable materials.” He added, “Our lunar habitation follows a similar logic.”
ESA and the agency’s partners have already built part of the base. Using a mixture of silicon, aluminum, calcium, iron and magnesium oxides meant to simulate regolith — a mixture of dust and dirt — found on the moon, ESA and its partners printed a 2,205-pound (1,000 kilograms) piece of what part of the home could look like. ”The planned site for the base is at the moon’s southern pole, where there is near perpetual sunlight on the horizon,” officials for Foster and Partners said in a statement.
And, they say it could be functional in 40 years. In an article from Daily Mail, ‘It could be the first human settlement on another planet. European Space Agency bosses today revealed a video tour of the moonbase they hope could see its first visitor in 40 years.’
It will be crafted by robots using an inflatable dome saturated in lunar soil in order to create a safe structure. And, it will accommodate up to four people to live and work.
The base would have a cell-like but strong frame resembling the structure of bird bones that will protect lunar residents from gamma radiation and micrometeorites that could destroy a less robust build. ESA and the agency’s partners have already built part of the base. The firm has started trying out the 3D printer in conditions similar to those on the surface of the moon. The team has started printing various structures inside a vacuum chamber. This isn’t the first time a space agency has considered 3D printing a lunar base. Last year, NASA officials challenged researchers at Washington State University in Pullman, Wash. to 3D print the ceramic-like simulated lunar regolith into smooth, cylindrical shapes to test the strength of the material. Foster + Partners is also partnering with other firms to build the first private spaceport in the world. Known as Spaceport America, the $209 million base will serve as a hub for commercial spaceflight. The spaceport should be completed later this year. —Space.Com
“Terrestrial 3D printing technology has produced entire structures,” Laurent Pambaguian (pictured on right), who heads the project for ESA, said in a statement. “Our industrial team investigated if it could similarly be employed to build a lunar habitat.”
I am reminded of the story in Genesis about the Tower of Babel. Genesis 11:1-4 says:
1 And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.
2 And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.
3 And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter.
4 And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.
Please pay attention to the areas I have in bold print above. Now, look at this:
Moon brick: Simulated lunar soil has been used to create a 1.5 ton mockup and 3D printing tests have been undertaken at a smaller scale in a vacuum chamber to echo lunar conditions. This 2,205 pound (1,000 kilograms) test-print is made from simulated lunar dirt and resembles a cross section of what the lunar home could look like.
While the Tower of Babel was a tower being built to reach heaven, we have already reached the heavens with spaceflight. However, now that we have reached heaven, we want to build and construct.
Though this would definitely be a phenomenal advancement technologically speaking, one must wonder, given the story of the Tower of Babel, if something of this nature angers God? And that includes spaceflight, which we’ve been doing for years now.
Speaking of God’s feelings about all this, let’s take a look at the rest of the story taken from the Bible. Genesis 11:5-9 goes on to say:
5 And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.
6 And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.
7 Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.
8 So the Lord scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.
9 Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the Lord did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the Lord scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.
So the question is: Another amazing technological advancement? Or, another wicked attempt by humanity to be more like God?
‘Our current printer builds at a rate of around 2 m per hour, while our next-generation design should attain 3.5 m per hour, completing an entire building in a week.’ Daily Mail
So…Loopy Lyn would be against:
1) skyscrapers
2) airplanes
3) space travel
4) the Washington Monument
5) weather balloons
And just about anything which involves space or the sky. What a moron.
Did god tell you personally that travelling to other planets was ok or did you let culture dictate that for you…
pagan holidays are cool too cuz ‘Merica said so
The moon is not ours and never has been…It literally was put there for a purpose. Just like Mars which has been proven that is also has a moon that has no business there. There is a reason the US does not go to the moon anymore….I could go on Lyn but I don’t feel like writing a book just yet
Very good article and you make some good points…
I agree, she very rarely replies to posts about her posts, I hope the ‘troll’ money is well worth it
& where does Lyn think the gods that said “Come,Let US go down…..” were at the time? Up at the corner shop?Up at the local bar?
& where does Lyn think Enoch went? or where Elijah went to up in the Whirlwind?
If the whirlwind was a Tornado, How did the witnessess survive not being “drawn up into it” too???
Like most of the mistranslated stories of the OT, the Sumerian Tablets talk of “Whirlwinds”, Celestial(Star) Boats, the Chariots of Fire, & talk of Epic battles in the skies, & Ninurta’s(Nimrod) special “BLACKBIRD”……..
The “fallen angels” are the IGIGI Astronauts, that had bases on the moon & Mars……….the “Face at Cydonai” was a memorial to the one they called Alula…….
The outer planets? Funny how they are named after Roman gods? But lets translate shall we>
Uranus(ANU)……..Neptune/poseidon(E.A,Fish Lord)………Pluto/Hades(GA GA)…..Is Lady GaGa from Hell????
they also knew of the asteroid belt where we haved named the largest CERES. CERES is the Roman goddess of Fertility also named Cybele.(Ptolemy’s Egypt).
In Egypt she was known as HATHOR(the mother cow) but in Sumeria she was NINMAH(birth goddess)…….
Lyn asks:
“So the question is: Another amazing technological advancement? Or, another wicked attempt by humanity to be more like God?”
Technology itself is neutral—it can be used for good or for bad. Technology in and of itself is a tribute to God because scientific advancements just reaffirm a fact that we already know: there is perfection in the universe. Every scientific advancement is just a further insight into that perfection.
Reflect a moment on all the technology around us today. Long ago God formed the earth with all its natural resources which we have extracted from the earth and with God-given knowledge and wisdom, formed into the things we see all around us. God planned it all out, a long time ago. He put into the earth all the natural resources which he knew that man would build into all the amazing things we see around us today isn’t God good? Isn’t God incredible? Indeed!
While technology and science throughout eternity will be exciting and I can hardly wait as we mimic nature with our machines and technology, nevertheless, science goes astray when man is considered the ultimate being of the universe. Not only does atheistic science give us the laughably absurd theory of evolution, but because of their glorified intellects and because there is no fear of the Lord (although I assure you that will change) in the atheist halls of science, science treads upon a path it should not go and gives us ugly, gross, perverse things, things of the proverbial mad scientist, chimeras or “humanimals”, things that ought not to be done. But I have news for this branch of science: go ahead and have your little fun for now, but know this: Jesus is coming back and when He does, He’s going to take out the garbage and burn it in a fire that never goes out. I would leave Babylon if I were you. Babylon is about to be utterly destroyed. I would come and drink freely from the spring of water of life and live forever and ever.
The biggest advancements in science, many of the laws mankind has discovered, were deduced by scientists who assumed that we live in a rational, ordered universe stemming from the hand of a rational, ordered Creator. Isaac Newton said “This most beautiful system (The Universe) could only proceed from the dominion of an intelligent and powerful Being”. Newton also said “”No great discovery was ever made without a bold guess”. And the bold guesses have been based upon the idea that the universe operates according to laws which are comprehensible to the human mind, laws which we measure here on earth in laboratories and are true everywhere and have their existence due to a rational Creator behind it all who writes the physical laws of the universe in the language of mathematics.
Are you going to heed the words of a Homophobic FREAK, like this christian coward, am123, a “believer” in the White man SCAM???
Am123 says “Stay stupid, for christ (of course)!!!
One would be better advised to listen to am123 than to listen to a brown skid mark from a pair of quarantinable size XXXL boxers.
( these new characters are poop Chris.. literally )
Thanks ZeroSum.
A brown skid mark sounds like a combination of two of our friends latest IDs: Mark of the little Piggy
pay no attention to them Sweetie.. you should be preparing for your own survival !
you’ve done your best to help these idiots ! believe me I know ! time is very short now babe…
