~~As I sat with my family last week during Christmas I began to look back at this past year and all the events that have taken place. In doing so, I am amazed at how much our world has changed in one short year. Jesus spoke of these times in Matthew 24: “And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows” (verses 6-8, KJV).
In examining Matthew 24, we can see that much of what Jesus warned about is taking place right now. We are experiencing wars and rumors of war (all the hype and build up to world war 3), nation rising against nation (that’s ethnos against ethnos: you see this in the rise in racial tensions and hatred in America and throughout the world), famines, pestilences, and earthquakes (Ebola and other deadly disease outbreaks, droughts, food prices going through the roof, uptick in earthquakes, and dormant volcanos waking up). As if this isn’t bad enough, Jesus said that this was just the beginning of sorrows.
