These are excerpts (in italics) from an article in a Divine Love Newsletter. I want to use it to point out some of the assumed things attributed to being spiritual, to living with the Divine Love, and to prayer, that are misleading, untrue and not helping one to grow in truth.

On Praying Without Ceasing
DLSF Forum comments compiled and edited by EP
A forum member asked: The Bible (1 Thess. 5:16-18) exhorts: “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances.” It appears that joy, gratitude, and a constant attitude of prayer are all interrelated. How can we reach this high state of spirituality – of praying without ceasing?
It sounds good what The Bible says, however it’s impossible to do whilst we’re living untrue to ourselves; and by trying to make yourself be this way, is misusing time which could be spent attending to expressing your feelings and longing for the truth of what they are to show you about why you are not naturally in this state of grace. Instead, in our search for truth from within ourselves by looking to our feelings, we should: allow ourselves to always feel bad, pray when you feel you can for the Mother and Father to help you feel all your bad feelings, express those bad feelings; and to want to find their hidden truth, and thank God when the truth comes.
It’s impossible to maintain at state of constant prayer, and if you succeed then you are doing so by denying many bad feelings, using prayer to only make your mind have an even greater hold over you than it already does. It’s the sort of thing which supposedly highly Ascended Masters, gurus, or saints attain, helping them to always ‘be in the presence of God’, but if such a state is ever possible, it should come about naturally, you just being it, and not because you are doing anything to achieve or it or make it happen through determination of will. It should be a natural expression of the truth you are living.
So forget about trying to reach this so-called exalted state of spirituality, of prayer without ceasing, because it’s a lot of rubbish. We are to live the truths revealed to us by our soul through our feelings, we naturally become them – we can’t help living them. And part of that truth will be feelings of longing to God for Their Divine Love and feelings of longing for other things and a periodic desire to tell God what you’re thinking, feeling and wanting. But they are momentary – that being spontaneously inspired by feelings. You pray, long, and most importantly, keep going with your feeling-focus. You can’t do two things at once, you can’t keep expressing and longing for the truth of your feelings and praying at the same time. Your prayer is simply part of your healing yourself through your ongoing feeling acceptance.
When I read Jesus and the other Celestials in the Padgett Messages talking about how we can long directly to God for the Divine Love, I too wanted to long all day and night, feeling the Love flowing into my soul and making me feel good, happy and loved. And I tried to do it, and for a couple of years I spent a lot of time sitting in prayer and meditation and trying to think about being continually connected to God. Then I met Marion and she pointed out that I was untrue, and what did I think all my praying was doing, because why was I still so fearful and unhappy, and why wasn’t I brimming over with joy and feeling full of truth. So following her lead I started to focus more on my feelings, trying to express all the ones I was keeping buried by my incessant prayer, and found instead of spending hours each day in prayer and meditation, I spent only a matter of moments longing and praying, and all the rest of the time working on my feeling expression to uncover the truth of my fear and unhappiness.
Praying it away can be a great temptation, to apply the mind to keep all those dreaded bad feelings at bay. But it’s only holding off the inevitable, because those bad feelings don’t just go away mysteriously by their own accord or simply because you pray to God to take them away and heal all your sin and evilness. One day the volcano of repressed bad feelings will start erupting, and then what will do – pray even longer and harder?
What is Prayer?
Prayer takes many forms and is expressed in many ways. An attitude of prayer is possible in every moment of the day — that is being open to God’s influence and Love as we go about our day.
Prayer is asking for something – do you really want to ask for something all day long? Really it’s a state of worship, of feeling loving and all the lovely attributes of love that we should want to be in all day long. And to achieve this state we need to grow in truth, because it’s through and with truth that one can live in true worship; that being, one can love being true, expressing such truth and love in everything that one does. But that state can’t exist whilst you’re in a state that is anti truth and love, such as what we’re all living in.
We live denying truth. Denying ourselves as seen by our constant denial of feelings, which if welcomed and expressed, would lead us to truth. We live against all the ways we should live, so we can’t spiritually grow whilst we’re denying feelings and denying the truth they would reveal to us. So we can’t enjoying living in a constant state of love and truth until we’ve at least healed our negative truth-denying state. And so first we have to do our Feeling-Healing, or Soul-Healing with the Divine Love.
And it’s meaningless saying we can be open to God’s influence and Love as we go about our day. It’s all mind stuff, and mind distraction, all designed to keep our attention away from those feelings we don’t want to feel. When we do heal and evolve our soul in truth, it’s through and with our soul perceptions that come through and are a natural expression of truth accumulating in our soul, that we know: we’re living with God, that God loves us, that we are God’s child, that we’re increasingly becoming at one with God. And soul perceptions are just like extended feelings. You feel your connectedness, you feel closer to God, you feel God closer to you, you feel part of Creation and your place in it, and you feel your love of your Mother and Father as you feel Their love for you. You can’t do it through your mind, all of that is contrived, a pretence and so fantasy.
And you can’t make yourself be any way, it simply has to happen naturally. You keep attending to your feelings, revealing their truth to yourself, and you’ll grow in truth and express that truth naturally in life. You don’t have to do anything to be more spiritual by using your mind like trying to be always attentive to God. God is more with you than you can imagine – is already a million steps ahead of you, so all we need do is keep focused on embracing, expressing and longing for the truth of our feelings, and everything will happen naturally.
Prayer as Staying in the Flow of Love
If we understand prayer to be sincere longing from the soul for our Creator’s Love, the original question becomes, “How do we enter into and stay in a state of longing for the Love throughout daily life?”
