For Merzenich, the difference between critical-period plasticity and adult plasticity is that in the critical period the brain maps can be changed just by being exposed to the world because ‘the learning machinery is always on.’ It makes good biological sense for this ‘machinery’ always to be on because babies cant possibly know what will be important in life, so they pay attention to everything.”

Now I am Revealing new things to you, things hidden and unknown to you, created just now, this very moment, of these things you have heard nothing until now, so that you cannot say ‘Oh, yes, I knew all this.’

The religious indoctrinate their kids with material full of contradictions, which destroys their ability for critical thinking. Those neural pathways only form when you’re young, and the opportunity ends at puberty, the same as language learning. If you don’t teach kids to speak before a certain age, they are forever unable to learn it after. The younger kids brains are destroyed with the contradictory as true, the stronger and more unshakable the belief in unsubstantiated contradictory bs later. You can see it at work when parents make out Santa is real, the younger kids believe it because they haven’t have anyone telling them the truth, until they go to school. Only in the case of religion their parents make sure their kids are indoctrinated at school with it as well, so they leave school believing it’s true. QED.

Such treatment of children amounts to child cruelty, one has to ask why you hate your kids so much for you to disable them for life?
