To Feed Humankind, We Need the Farms of the Future Today Right now—at this very moment—there are over 7 billion humans crawling on the Earth. That’s a lot of mouths to feed. To sustain them all, we’ve taken 40 percent of the planet’s total landmass and turned it into cornfields and almond orchards, cattle ranches […]

  • The full article refers mostly to technicalities, technical modernization, greenhouses, garden skyscrapers… and rewilding of land.
All of that is not the real solution.
Mahatma Gandhi, on the contrary, did know the true way.
The saintly Indian leader advocated a Republic of Villages, a Village in his sense being something like an agricultural Production Unit in former GDR but, contrary to the GDR example, with a deep spiritual background. Each farmer according to Gandhi should till or garden a relatively small acre of land, but use it in an efficient way according to the ancient Indian tradition of agriculture which makes use of manure fertilizing and fruit rotation.
In ancient times this system existed for centuries in India and it functioned well. British colonization destroyed it.
Today when the feeding of centres, cities, is much more important than in Indian “Middle Ages” it could be easily supplemented by a system of small railways, automatically driven, to take the surplus harvest to central processing and marketing units. We got all elements of technology today to establish such a logistics system.
Thus, all cities and non-agricultural regions could be provided well with food on a national level.
Global trade would only have to supplement the respective national food production… and to provide for luxury and lifestyle goods, such as coffee, black tea, cigars, rhum, whiskey, cane sugar, coconut products, spices.

Dont shriek “ugh this requires Socialism” American readers – for, what is Socialism? Nothing but the social doctrine of early Christendom but given to people without a link to God and mixed with toxic modern ideas… Give it back the link to God i.e. the core of Love and remove the Scientism superstition from it and you got a viable system. Or to say it otherwise, the Vedic agricultural system as taught by Gandhi could become a “God-Blessed Socialism” today…
Why not try it out in certain regions of the world?
Why not let INDIA ITSELF rebuild it for itself and see what the results are… ?
Instead of Westernizing and Monsanto-izing this beautiful Subcontinent, as it is tried today, to the detriment of its whole culture and morality,. and especially to the ruin of traditional farmers who commit suicide in masses, being trapped in debt by being obliged to buy and use Monsanto products … C´mon Mother India! Resist!!!

No we don’t, farmers already grow twice as much food as needed, it’s a transport and storage problem, not a production problem. And in any case global population numbers are in rapid decline everywhere, so there is no point.
