The odds are not good, because it was war time and every available facility for doing such a thing, was being bombed flat by Britain. The scientists were captured before they could make one, the nuclear physicists were sent to America and the rocket scientists to Russia for safe keeping to avoid them being recaptured in Britain. Which by the way, is the reason America had nuclear bombs before anyone else, and why Russia had the better rockets. The scientists were not released after the war and America refused to share their technology, so Britain had to work it out from scratch, shortly followed by sharing the technology with Russia to keep America from becoming the next brutal Roman empire, the cold war. It worked really well until Russia collapsed, but thank f*ck they are now back in business, because when Russia stopped being a threat to America, our fears about America were totally justified, ie all the illegal wars and training, arming and funding terrorists to sh*t stir up proxy wars for the profit of the private interests American war industry.
