By correctly understanding Dan 9:27, we realize several important facts.
Christ will confirm the covenant with many, and this confirmation process began at the beginning of the New Testament age. It is said that the interpretation of this passage definitely colors all other prophetic views. The truth hidden in this passage will start the process of unraveling the deception in prophecy teaching. Most teachers of Christianity falsely claim that this verse is all about the anti Christ making a covenant with Israel for seven years.
Dan 9:27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.
From the command to rebuild Jerusalem until Christ is a period of sixty nine weeks of years; the emphasis in this verse is on Jesus Christ (Dan 9:25). And after this period of time Messiah shall be cut off; the emphasis in this verse is also on Him (Dan 9:26). Likewise in Dan 9:27, the emphasis is still on Jesus. Christ will confirm the covenant with many.
The words “he shall” are added by the translator twice. Therefore, what is being described in the first part of this passage is the confirming or establishment of a covenant with many for one week! This means that the emphasis is on confirming a covenant, and it may be confirmed by multiple sources.
The first half of the seventieth week of Daniel was fulfilled in Christ; His ministry was for three and one half years. The promise that Christ will confirm the covenant with many, is already partially fulfilled.
This covenant which is Christ’s testimony is the basis for the entire New Testament; those that had faith and hope believed in the testimony of Christ unto life. The self righteous and deceived believed in their own testimony unto death.
The Old Testament is fulfilled in and through Jesus in two parts; part one is the arrival of the Word of Life and the payment for sin upon the cross unto Salvation. Part two is the separation of the unjust, and the inheritance and kingdom that are received by the just at His second coming.
The second covenant or promise that Christ gave to all mankind was to take away their sins; this could not be accomplished under the first one, as sins were only temporarily covered (Rom 11:27; Heb 9:25).
Jesus Christ, the son of God is the only mediator of a perfect covenant between the Father and men. This covenant that was confirmed to all He spoke to, was established then upon the best promise of all unto our eternal life (1Tim 2:5; Heb 8:6-10).
Heb 8:8 For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah:
The fact that Christ will confirm the covenant with many, is the focus of the entire New Testament:
Below is a partial list of the characteristics of the people that make up this house.
They are not all the Israel of God just because they happen to reside in the physical nation of Israel (Rom 9:6).
And as many as walk according to the Law of Christ, peace and mercy be upon them the Israel of God (Gal 6:16).
In the past we were without Christ and aliens from the commonwealth of Israel; as such we had no part in the promises and were without hope. In Christ all can become the Israel of God through His shed blood (Eph 2:11-13).
All who share in the faith of Abraham now are of one family; this faith was not in the letter of the law, but in the one who gave the law. All who serve God in faith are counted as children of Abraham (Gal 3:7).
Israel is saved in the LORD with an everlasting salvation… (Isaiah 45:17).
Isaiah 45:22 Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.
Isaiah 45:25 In the LORD shall all the seed of Israel be justified, and shall glory.
Backsliding Israel had finally caused God to give her a bill of divorce. The kingdom of God was taken from them and given to another people that would produce fruits unto the Lord. It is this group, His chosen that would be called Christians and take the gospel message to the world (Jer 3:8; Isa 65:12-15; Acts 11:26; Mat 21:43).
At the time of Christ’s earthly ministry the nation of Israel had ceased to exist, and only Judah that was left, which was controlled by the Romans. The Spiritual house of Israel would represent all believers in Christ.
Isaiah 65:8-9 Thus saith the LORD, As the new wine is found in the cluster, and one saith, Destroy it not; for a blessing is in it: so will I do for my servants’ sakes, that I may not destroy them all. And I will bring forth a seed out of Jacob, and out of Judah an inheritor of my mountains: and mine elect shall inherit it, and my servants shall dwell there.
There is a group that faithfully followed the Lord Jesus that were of the true tribe of Judah, these would inherit the kingdom and also be counted as the elect.
Christ presented a new covenant to the Judeans or those that resided in Judea; the first people to receive and believe on Jesus were in and around this area.
Some of those Judeans who lived in Judea were of the tribe or house of Judah.
Judaism and the word Jewish, or Jew, come from the tribe of Judah; Abraham was not Jewish nor were Isaac, Jacob or any of his twelve sons.
Judaism like all other religions is man made, and Salvation is impossible through any of them.
To claim to be Jewish can have different meanings to different people, and for many it may be just a religious or cultural identity. But some in this group wield great political and financial powers, claiming they are part of an elite chosen super class above all others.
There is also the Jewish religious movement that claims that they are the chosen ones of God, and even though scripture proves this claim to be another great deception, many Christians believe this lie as well.
Gal 1:13 For ye have heard of my conversation in time past in the Jews’ religion, how that beyond measure I persecuted the church of God, and wasted it:
At the time when Christ walked in Judaea the religion of the house of Judah was very demonic and few came close to following the original law that God gave through Moses. Here are a few examples of what Christ had to say to the religious leaders of that day:
Romans 11:21 For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee.
Christ came to His own, but they for the most they part did not receive Him, for this reason they were cut off (John 1:11).
Romans 11:22 Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.
Christians need to understand that they may also be cut off if they fail to follow the truth allowing themselves to get caught up in self righteousness and iniquity.
Romans 11:23 And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be graffed in: for God is able to graff them in again.
Christ declared Himself to be the only way, because He is the truth and the light; all must come to Him for salvation. There is no special plan for those who claim to be of the house of Judah, or for the people groups that follow Judaism.
Gal 3:28-29 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.
Christ first confirmed the new covenant with the house of Judah as He was from this tribe or lineage in the flesh; Paul started where Christ left off but primarily was responsible to take the gospel abroad to all people groups (Acts 9:15).
Jeremiah 31:32-33 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD: But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD. I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
Christ established or confirmed his covenant with many peoples, only this time he wrote it in the believers mind and on their hearts, instead of tablets of stone (2 Cor 3:3).
Hebrews 9:28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.
Here we see the power in the new covenant of promise, and in it our faith and hopes will be fulfilled. The old was a temporary covering for sin, the new however blots it out completely.
1 Cor 1:4-6 I thank my God always on your behalf, for the grace of God which is given you by Jesus Christ; That in every thing ye are enriched by him, in all utterance, and in all knowledge. Even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you.
Christ will confirm the covenant with many. His testimony is the covenant.
Revelations 1:1-2 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John: Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw.
By correctly understanding Dan 9:27, we realize several important facts.
Christ claimed that Jerusalem would become desolate and remain in that spiritual condition, until His return for the second gathering of His people. Often times it is errantly taught that the Israel of 1948 represents the second gathering prophesized in scripture.
At the true second gathering, all the righteous in Christ will reign in a Gloriously restored Jerusalem. No longer will Jerusalem be spiritually referred to as Sodom and Egypt, as it is during the Great Tribulation (Rev 11:8).
Christ was the one who caused the sacrifices and the oblations to cease, as he was the final sacrifice. After the cross, never again would animal sacrifices be acceptable. In the midst of the week, or after his three and a half year ministry, Christ sacrificed Himself for us. Daniel also tells us that for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate.
Behold your house is left to you desolate, was the decree given unto Jerusalem by Christ (Math 23:38). For the great abominations associated with their sacrifices and perverted religion, Jesus caused them to cease. The Lord, at many times throughout their history, did not recognize their sacrifices as being valid (Isa 66:3-4; Isa 1:11).
The antichrist does not make a covenant, however Christ will confirm the covenant with many. The suggestion that the covenant spoken of in Daniel 9:27, is a covenant made with Israel by the Antichrist, is a terrible lie and is not supported anywhere in the scriptures.
The word covenant is used seven times in Daniel, and only once is it not a representation of the holy covenant of God.
Daniel 11:21-22 And in his estate shall stand up a vile person, to whom they shall not give the honour of the kingdom: but he shall come in peaceably, and obtain the kingdom by flatteries.
And with the arms of a flood shall they be overflown from before him, and shall be broken; yea, also the prince of the covenant,(or treaty).
The covenant here is between two men, and in this case refers to an alliance or pledge.
Daniel 11:23 And after the league (or uniting together) made with him he shall work deceitfully: for he shall come up, and shall become strong with a small people.
The antichrist or little horn of Daniel does not confirm the covenant, but is in fact very much opposed to, or against it with considerable force.
Dan 11:28 Then shall he return into his land with great riches; and his heart shall be against the holy covenant; and he shall do exploits, and return to his own land.
Dan 11:30 For the ships of Chittim shall come against him: therefore he shall be grieved, and return, and have indignation against the holy covenant: so shall he do; he shall even return, and have intelligence with them that forsake the holy covenant.
Rev 12:17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.
By understanding that the commandments of God are contained in Christ’s testimony, Rev 12:17 takes on a completely different meaning. Those who say they are of the spiritual house of Judah, but are not, do not keep these commandments. So obviously this is a reference to Christians, that the Beast and False Prophet persecute. This means that there is no pre tribulation rapture, only the true believers have the testimony of Jesus (1Cor1:6; Rev 1:9; Rev 12:11).
From the above verse it is clear to see that the dragon through his fleshly representative makes war with the remnant, the Christians who have the testimony of Christ.
We know then that Christ will confirm the covenant with many, his earthly ministry was for three and a half years. This leaves the second half of the last week still unfulfilled. Many grasp the truth that Daniel 9:27, refers to Christ as the one who does the confirming. However they believe that it is a consecutive seven year period with the latter half confirmation taking place through his disciples.
Part of the prophecy in Daniel 9:24 has yet to transpire, and that is to bring in everlasting righteousness.
Isaiah 11:4-6 But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked. And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.
Isaiah 51:6 Lift up your eyes to the heavens, and look upon the earth beneath: for the heavens shall vanish away like smoke, and the earth shall wax old like a garment, and they that dwell therein shall die in like manner: but my salvation shall be for ever, and my righteousness shall not be abolished.

There is no seven year tribulation. Nor is there 3 1/2 year tribulation.
The tribulation was the 1260 years of papal supremacy when millions of true Christians were tortured and murdered for not following the papacy’s system of false religion.
The so called great tribulation and Jacob’s Time of Trouble are not the same thing.
The 2300 days/years of Daniel ended in 1844.
The following ten points provide logical and convincing evidential proof that Daniel’s famous 70th week prophecy has no application to any future seven year tribulation at all. Rather, this great prophetic period of Daniel’s 70 weeks is a Messianic prophecy that was definitely fulfilled nearly two thousand years ago.
1. The entire prophecy of Daniel 9:24-27 covers a period of “seventy weeks,” or 490 years. Logic requires that “seventy weeks” refers to one consecutive block of time, in other words, to seventy straight sequential weeks. There is no example in Scripture (or anywhere else!) of a stated time period starting, stopping, and then starting again. All biblical references to time are consecutive: 40 days and 40 nights (see Genesis 7:4), 400 years in Egypt (see Genesis 15:13), 70 years of captivity (see Daniel 9:2), etc. In Daniel’s prophecy, the “seventy weeks” were to begin during the reign of Persia and continue to the time of the Messiah.
2. Logic also requires that the 70th week follow immediately after the 69th week. If it doesn’t, then how can it possibly be called the 70th week!
3. It is illogical to insert a 2,000 year gap between the 69th and 70th weeks of Daniel’s prophecy. No hint of a gap is found in the prophecy itself. There is no gap between the first seven weeks and the following sixty two weeks, so why insert one between the 69th and 70th weeks?
If you told your child to be in bed in 70 minutes, you obviously would mean 70 consecutive minutes. What if five hours later your wide awake son said, “But dad, I know 69 minutes have passed, but the 70th minute hasn’t started yet!”? After receiving an appropriate punishment, he would be sent swiftly to bed.
4. Daniel 9:27 says nothing about a seven year period of “tribulation,” a “rebuilt” Jewish temple, or any “antichrist.”
5. The stated focus of this prophecy is the Messiah, not the antichrist. After the Messiah is “cut off” (referring to Christ’s death), the text says, “And the people of the prince who is to come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary.” In the past, this has been consistently applied to the destruction of Jerusalem and the second temple by Roman armies led by Prince Titus in A.D. 70.
6. “He shall confirm the covenant.” Paul said “the covenant” was “confirmed before by God in Christ.” (Galatians 3:17) Jesus Christ came “to confirm the promises made to the fathers.” (Romans 15:8) In the King James Version, Daniel 9:27 doesn’t say “a covenant” or peace treaty, but “the covenant,” which applies to the New Covenant. Nowhere in the Bible does the antichrist make, confirm, or break a covenant with anyone. The word “covenant” is Messianic, and always applies to the Messiah, not some antichrist.
7. “He shall confirm the covenant with many.” Jesus Christ said, “This is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many…” (Matthew 26:28) Behold a perfect fit! Jesus was quoting Daniel 9:27 specifically.
8. “In the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease.” After exactly three and a half years of holy ministry, Jesus Christ died on the cross, “in the midst of the week [in the middle of the seven years].” At the exact moment of His death, “the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom…” (Matthew 27:51) This act of God signified that all animal sacrifices at that moment ceased to be of value. Why? Because the Perfect Sacrifice had been offered once and for all!
9. “For the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate.” The abomination that causes desolation (see Matthew 24:15) is not a simple subject, yet we know that Jesus clearly applied this event to the time when His followers were to flee from Jerusalem before the destruction of the second temple in A.D. 70. In a parallel text to Matthew 24:15, Jesus told His disciples, “When you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies [Roman armies led by Prince Titus], then know that its desolation is near.” (Luke 21:20) The disciples did “see” those very events. Because of the “abominations” of the Pharisees, Jesus told them, “See! Your house is left to you desolate.” (Matthew 23:38) Thus Gabriel’s statement in Daniel 9:27 about Jerusalem becoming “desolate” was perfectly fulfilled in A.D. 70.
10. Gabriel said that the 70 weeks prophecy of Daniel specifically applied to the Jewish people (see Daniel 9:24). During the period of Christ’s public ministry of 3.5 years, the Master’s focus was largely upon “the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” (Matthew 10:6) After His resurrection and then for another 3.5 years, His disciples preached mostly to Jews (see Acts 1-6). After that second 3.5 year period, in 34 A.D., the bold Stephen was stoned by the Jewish Sanhedrin (see Acts 7). This infamous deed marked the then-ruling Jewish leaders’ final, official rejection of the gospel of our Saviour. Then the gospel went to the Gentiles. In Acts 9, Saul became Paul, the “apostle to the Gentiles.” (Romans 11:13) In Acts 10, God gave Peter a vision revealing it was now time to preach to the Gentiles (see Acts 10:1-28). Read also Acts 13:46. Thus approximately 3.5 years after the crucifixion and at the end of the 70 week prophecy given for the Jewish people, the gospel shifted to the Gentiles exactly as predicted in Bible prophecy.
The explosive evidence is absolutely overwhelming! Point by point the events of Daniel’s 70th week have been fulfilled in the past. These eight words found in Daniel 9:27: “confirm… covenant… many… midst… sacrifice… cease… abominations… desolate” all find perfect fulfilment in Jesus Christ and early Christian history. The entire “seven year period of tribulation” theory is an end time delusion, a massive mega-myth. It may even go down in history as the greatest evangelical misinterpretation of all time.
Thanks, Amminadab.
This is true, and for years now I have made a challenge to anyone who can prove that the 70th week of Daniel did not follow right after the 69th week, and offered a $1,000,000 reward to anyone who could prove that the 70th can be separated off and placed way over at the end of time during the time of the second coming of Christ. And so, I know I do not even have to save a buck to do this.
In order to get people to fall for this people create devices such as hoops and loops in time that people have to jump through in order to land in a time where the 70th week is placed over in The Great Tribulations.
Now here is another point the Bible mentions great tribulations but does not provide a definitive term such as “the great tribulations.”
What I ask people to do is to show me clearly in God’s word where God instructs us to separate the 70th week of Daniel off from following right after the 69th week. And so no one can do that because God did not tell us to do so.
…Ok, explain to me what you think is going on in the world…right now.

Are you familiar with the Old covenant or contract, specifically as it is spelled out in Leviticus 26: 1- 39?
Verses 1 – 3 is the “consideration” i.e. the contractual duties of Israel, what they agreed to do.
Verse 4 – 13 are the contractual promises God agreed to provide as long as Israel lives up to their contract duties.
Verse 14 – 39 are the remedies allowed under the Covenant to bring Israel back into contract compliance.
There are three periods of 7 years each allowed by the contract for God to punish Israel and convince them to return to the Covenant and to perform what they agreed to do in verses 1 – 3.
If Israel refuses to repent, refuses to return to God’s Covenant then God is allowed one final period of 7 years in which God is allowed to utterly destroy the nations of Israel and send the few that remain into captivity.
This final 7 year period is what has been called “the time of the end”. God must follow the Torah and what is found in Leviticus 26: God must follow the covenant to the letter in all His dealings with His Chosen people Israel.
There are many other prophecies using different numbers but all lead to this final 7 years.
In Daniel 12: 11 it show 30 days before the first 3 ½ years of the 7 begins (1260 days + 30 = 1290) the daily sacrifice will be stopped and then at the end of the first 3 ½ years the Abomination of Desolation begins the last 3 ½ years, the last 1260 days.
The Great Tribulation spoken of by Jesus Christ in Matthew 24 begins with the Abomination of desolation and ends at the Day of the Lord which is the last years of the 1260 days.
I hope this helps
The tribulation already happened.
For teaching faith contrary to the teaching of the Church of Rome, history records the martyrdom of more than 100 million people.” Brief Bible Readings p. 16
Under the bloody maxims those persecutions were carried on, from the eleventh and twelfth centuries almost to the present day, which stand out on the page of history. After the signal of open martyrdom had been given in the canons of Orleans, there followed the extirpation of the Albigenses, under the form of a crusade, the establishment of the inquisition, the cruel attempts to extinguish the Waldenses, the martyrdoms of the Lollards, the cruel wars to exterminate the Bohemians, the burning of Huss and Jerome, and multitudes of other confessors, before the Reformation; and afterwards, the ferocious cruelties practised in the Netherlands, the martyrdoms of queen Mary’s reign, the extinction, by fire and sword, of the reformation in Spain and Italy, by fraud and open persecution in Poland, the massacre of Bartholomew, the persecution of the Huguenots by the League,… and all the cruelties and perjuries connected with the revocation of the edict of Nantz [Nantes]. These are the more open and conspicuous facts which explain the prophecy, besides the slow and secret murders of the holy tribunal of the inquisition. -Rev. T. R. BIRKS, M.A., The Four Prophetic Empires, and the Kingdom of Messiah (1845 ed.) pp. 248, 249
The church of Rome has shed more innocent blood than any other institution that has ever existed among mankind, will be questioned by no Protestant who has a compentant knowledge of history. The memorials, indeed, of many of her persecutions are now so scanty that it is impossible to form a complete conception of the multitudes of victims, and it is quite certain that no powers of imagination can adequately realize their sufferings. -W.E.H. The Romans planted their eagles on the shapeless ruins, over against the eastern gate, offered their sacrifices to them, and proclaimed Titus Imperator with the greatest acclamations of joy. Thus was fulfilled the prophecy concerning the abomination of desolation standing in the holy place.”

“Christ caused the sacrifice and the oblations to cease, so there will not be a Jewish temple with the old ordinances becoming reinstated.”
Really? So why did Jesus claim in Matthew 5.17 “Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. 18. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.” Good luck with that one, there are 613 OT laws and over 100 of them are to do with ritual animal sacrifices, and stoning people to death over ridiculous trivia, eg, for eating shell fish and pork, and/or wearing mixed fabrics.
Judaism didn’t exist until after 70 CE, the invention of the political group called the Pharisees, they have never had a temple in Jerusalem. Jerusalem being the capitol city of Judea, nothing to do with ancient Israel. So who exactly are you talking about?
