The statement, He as God sits in the Temple of God, is part of a verse that is one of the most misused and misunderstood in relationship to both correctly interpretating Prophecy, and understanding the Christian Identity and true relationship with the Creator Jesus Christ Himself. The gross misrepresentation of this verse is used to propagate the false theory of a Jewish rebuilt temple in the last days.
There are actually three main verses used completely out of context to establish a teaching, albeit a false one for sure of:
2 Thess 2:3-4 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sits in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
The Elect of Christ are His temple and He resides in them, through the Holy Spirit.
There can never be another physical temple on earth made with hands, that Christ will dwell in without physically being present.
Acts 7:48-49 Howbeit the most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands; as saith the prophet, Heaven is my throne, and earth is my footstool: what house will ye build me? saith the Lord: or what is the place of my rest?
During the Great Tribulation there are two references to where the temple of God is, one is wherever Christ is, and during this time it is in Heaven.
The other is within the true believer that has been sealed, set apart and Baptized in the Holy Spirit.
The message hidden to most in 2 Thess 2:4, is as follows. If any one worships the man of sin or Satan as god, then the temple or dwelling place in us that is designed and set apart for God, is occupied by this imposter.
So the phrase ” He as God sits in the Temple of God” is no longer a mystery. Remember Satan is the god of this world.
Satan imitating God, dwells in the place of God, showing himself that he is a god (1 Cor 3:16; 6:19; 2 Cor 6:16; Acts 7:48; 17:24; Rev 11:19).
Matt 4:8-10 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. Then saith Jesus unto him,Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
The true message of the Gospel of Christ can only be understood by those who are Baptized with the Holy Spirit. The natural man can not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness unto him, nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned (1 Cor 2:14).
He as God sits in the Temple of God, is a true saying for so many who are of this world and blind to the Gospel of Christ.
2 Cor 4:3-4 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
Isaiah 65:9 And I will bring forth a seed out of Jacob, and out of Judah an inheritor of my mountains: and mine elect shall inherit it, and my servants shall dwell there.
The Elect not only understand who they are in Christ, but they are the ones to whom the inheritance is promised to.
Acts 17:24 God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;
He as God sits in the Temple of God, has a dualistic interpretation then.
There are two parts to this verse. Satan seeks to impersonate God, and the place where the Holy Spirit should dwell often is occupied by him.
1 Cor 3:16-17 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for thetemple of God is holy, which temple ye are.
Defiling the temple would be the act of opting out of Serving the Creator, Jesus Christ.
1 Cor 6:19-20 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.
The Beast will set up his headquarters in the holy mountain, which is in Jerusalem. During the time of the Great Tribulation, Jerusalem is referred to spiritually, as Sodom and Egypt (Rev 11:8).
Contrary to the popular teachings of a rebuilt temple for the jewish people, this will not occur. All of the deceived on earth will worship Satan and they will worship the Beast, he will not share the short time he has left, with a lesser imposter namely the Great Whore (Dan 11:45; Rev 13:4).
The article regarding Daniel 9:27, explains the true meaning of the covenant spoken of by Christ, click here.
This is just another example of the ignorance and deception within Christianity, that has been infiltrated by the great whore.
The antichrist does not make the covenant, however Christ will confirm the covenant with many.
The suggestion that the covenant spoken of in Daniel 9:27, is a covenant made with Israel by the Antichrist, is a terrible lie and is not supported anywhere in the scriptures.
The word covenant is used seven times in Daniel, and only once is it not a representation of the holy covenant of God.
Daniel 11:21-22 And in his estate shall stand up a vile person, to whom they shall not give the honour of the kingdom: but he shall come in peaceably, and obtain the kingdom by flatteries.
And with the arms of a flood shall they be overflown from before him, and shall be broken; yea, also the prince of the covenant,(or treaty).
The covenant here is between two men, and in this case refers to an alliance or pledge.
Daniel 11:23 And after the league (or uniting together) made with him he shall work deceitfully: for he shall come up, and shall become strong with a small people.
The antichrist or little horn of Daniel does not confirm the covenant, but is in fact very much opposed to, or against it with considerable force.
Dan 11:28 Then shall he return into his land with great riches; and his heart shall be against the holy covenant; and he shall do exploits, and return to his own land.
Far from being the one who establishes the covenant spoken in Daniel 9:27, the anti-Christ despises the Covenant of Christ.
Dan 11:30 For the ships of Chittim shall come against him: therefore he shall be grieved, and return, and have indignation against the holy covenant: so shall he do; he shall even return, and have intelligence with them that forsake the holy covenant.
Rev 12:17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.
Christ will confirm the covenant with many, and this confirmation process began at the beginning of the New Testament age.
It is said that the interpretation of this passage definitely colors all other prophetic views. The truth hidden in this passage will start the process of unraveling the deception in prophecy teaching. Most teachers of Christianity falsely claim that this verse is all about the anti Christ making a covenant with Israel for seven years.
Dan 9:27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.
From the command to rebuild Jerusalem until Christ is a period of sixty nine weeks of years; the emphasis in this verse is on Jesus Christ (Dan 9:25).
And after this period of time Messiah shall be cut off; the emphasis in this verse is also on Him (Dan 9:26). Likewise in Dan 9:27, the emphasis is still on Jesus. Christ will confirm the covenant with many.
The words “he shall” are added by the translator twice. Therefore, what is being described in the first part of this passage is the confirming or establishment of a covenant with many for one week!
This means that the emphasis is on confirming a covenant, and it may be confirmed by multiple sources.
The first half of the seventieth week of Daniel was fulfilled in Christ; His ministry was for three and one half years. The promise that Christ will confirm the covenant with many, is already partially fulfilled.
This covenant which is Christ’s testimony is the basis for the entire New Testament; those that had faith and hope believed in the testimony of Christ unto life.
The self righteous and deceived believed in their own testimony unto death.
The Old Testament is fulfilled in and through Jesus in two parts; part one is the arrival of the Word of Life, and the payment for sin upon the cross unto Salvation.
Part two is the separation of the unjust, and the inheritance and kingdom that are received by the just at His second coming.
Christ will confirm the covenant with many. His testimony is the covenant.
Revelations 1:1-2 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John: Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw.
By correctly understanding Dan 9:27, we realize several important facts.
Christ claimed that Jerusalem would become desolate and remain in that spiritual condition, until His return for the second gathering of His people. Often times it is errantly taught that the Israel of 1948 represents the second gathering prophesized in scripture.
At the true second gathering, all the righteous in Christ will reign in a Gloriously restored Jerusalem. No longer will Jerusalem be spiritually referred to as Sodom and Egypt, as it is during the Great Tribulation (Rev 11:8).
Christ was the one who caused the sacrifices and the oblations to cease, as he was the final sacrifice. After the cross, never again would animal sacrifices be acceptable.
In the midst of the week, or after his three and a half year ministry, Christ sacrificed Himself for us. Daniel also tells us that for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it (The Old Testament Sacrificial System) desolate.
Heb 10:12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;
Behold your house is left to you desolate, was the decree given unto Jerusalem by Christ (Math 23:38). For the great abominations associated with their sacrifices and perverted religion, Jesus declared these evil men as desolate. The Lord, at many times throughout their history, did not recognize their sacrifices as being valid (Isa 66:3-4; Isa 1:11).
Dan 11:31 And arms shall stand on his part, and they shall pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away the daily sacrifice, and they shall place the abomination that maketh desolate.
The word sacrifice is added to the above verse and is totally inappropriate. Most of the so-called mainstream Christian teachers, claim that the church is raptured away before the tribulation.
The evidence to destroy this fairy tale teaching, that Christ Himself refutes can be found here. Also refer to Mathew 24: 29-31.
These same false teachers claim the tribulation period is a time for the Jews to be saved, and the 144,000 witness to them.
Again this is false teaching, refer to the article on the 144,000 here. The time of the Great Tribulation will be a period of deception like no other, and the deceived will not come to the knowledge of the truth.
2 Thess 2:9-12 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
And just who are the Elect?
1 Peter 1:2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.
Mark 13:26-27 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory. And then shall he send his angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven.
After that tribulation Christ will gather together the Redeemed in Christ; he that endures until the end will be saved; the elect are chosen unto Salvation and have not fallen asleep, they are watchful and alert not to be deceived (Mark 13: 6, 13, 20, 22, 36).
1 Peter 2:9-10 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy
We have tasted His word and it is our most precious possession, He has established His Spirit in us, and we walk in the light. We are the Redeemed In Christ that will Inherit Zion, and forever be with our Lord Adonai.
