Our Christian commitment rightly understood (assuming the reader is a Christian) comes first. As such, the Bible teaches us that we remain today a stranger and a pilgrim—we have here no continuing city (a place to feel ‘at home’, Hebrews 13:14) —but we seek such a safe haven—for our citizenship is in heaven from whence comes our salvation.

Hal Lindsey shares a personal anecdote upon visiting a seaside prison in Rome (the Mamertine Prison, Carcere Mamertino). Lindsey witnessed a plaque that commemorated the circumstances surrounding the death of Paul the Apostle there. When Paul was beheaded, he was put to death in the company of many from the Pretorian Guard, Caesar’s personal bodyguards. We do not mean that they witnessed his death.
