Alert! Hurricane Hermine Headed for Washington DC!?

The tropics are becoming very active. At present Tropical Storm Fiona is making its way across the Atlantic Ocean. Fortunately the current forecast does not anticipate it making landfall on the mainland USA.
However both the GFS and CMC models are showing the possibility of several tropical storms/hurricanes developing in the next 10 days and the current models are showing at least one impacting the USA, including the East Coast and Washington DC.
If they develop as the models suggest the one on the right would be named Gaston, and the one off the Florida coast would be named Hermine.
Now look at the August 31st CMC model, again the two storms but they have the 2nd storm, which could be named Hermine, hammering Washington DC. This model also has a third storm just developing at that point in time.
It is particularly interesting that the name Hermine is the feminine form of Herman which means “army man.” Thus Hermine means “army woman.” Break Hermine apart and you get her–mine. Hmm…
There are a lot of implications in those meanings. Hasn’t there been a big push in this country by some men to make what has always been her’s “mine”? As one writer put it, in 1969 we put a man on the moon, in 2016 we put a man in the women’s room. Hasn’t there been a big push in this country to go from a man’s army to a man and woman’s army?
OF course these are only models and they are 10 days out, and a lot can change between now and then. But it is something to watch.
