(Before It's News)

Starz’ adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s American Gods is chugging right along, on track for a 2017 premiere and still picking up cast members. Jeremy Davies, for instance, who – according to a new report at Entertainment Weekly – has been hired to play this show’s version of Jesus H. Christ.

If you’re unfamiliar with the property, EW can explain why this is happening:

The series follows a thief named Shadow (Ricky Whittle) who finds himself at the center of a conflict brewing throughout America, unbeknownst to the country’s regular humans: A war of worship is being waged between the old gods — those who arrived in America from the world’s immigrant cultures — and the new gods of media and technology. Both are desperate for mankind’s attention.

Jesus plays into the appearance of another character: Kristin Chenoweth’s Easter, a.k.a. Ostara.

Davies joins an already-stacked cast of performers, including Ian McShane, Gillian Anderson, Orlando Jones, Emily Browning, Crispin Glover (!!!), Peter Stormare, Cloris Leachman (!!!!!), and the aforementioned Kristin Chenoweth.

Is it too early to declare this the best cast of 2017? Good grief.

As of yet, there’s no announced release date for American Gods, but we’ll let you know as soon as we hear something. Sound off with your opinion on Davies’ casting in the comments below.
