Fred Maxwell for Western Journalism reports, Two days after Defense Secretary James Mattis criticized China and vowed to protect Japan in the event of an attack, China sent three warships into Japanese waters close to the disputed Senkaku Islands. The ships entered Japanese territorial waters Monday and proceeded to approximately 12 miles from shore of the islands.
James Mattis, byname “Mad Dog” (born September 8, 1950, Pullman, Washington, U.S.), U.S. Marine Corps general who served as head of Central Command (Centcom) from 2010 to 2013. In 2017 he became secretary of defense in the cabinet of U.S. Pres. Donald Trump.
