(Before It's News)

No man’s life, liberty, or property are safe while the legislature is in session.” ― Mark Twain

Of course, Twain was writing before it was common for Presidents to abuse their power with executive orders, otherwise he would have to amend that quote to “No man’s life, liberty, or property are safe while the legislature is in session or the President is at work…” Still, we can breathe a little easier this week since Congress is taking the week off for the President’s Day recess. Here’s a rundown of the votes on the legislation highlighted in last week’s Congressional Update: HR 757 (North Korean Sanctions) Passed the Senate 96-0. Since the Senate changed the bill the House had to re-vote. Once again only Justin Amash and Thomas Massie voted no. HR 3442 (Debt Management and Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2015)– Passed 267-151. HR 2017 (Provides relief for buffets, pizza parlors, grocery stores, and other business from the FDA’s menu labeling rules)– Passed 266-144.
