Oprah High Priestess of the New World Order? You Decide

(Before It's News)

Background: Before we start, let me put some of you at ease. This is not simply another article aimed to take a swipe at the formidable Oprah Winfrey. Neither is it an attack on a woman who has defied significant odds to reach the top of her career and impact our world. Rather, this is an article about the misguided false doctrines that Oprah is aggressively promoting around the world today albeit with good intentions.

Because of her far-reaching influence, what Oprah endorses publicly becomes a very important matter. Her talk shows pull in an audience in the millions worldwide and her vast media empire permeate many levels of society around the globe. She is also increasingly recognised as a spiritual leader of the new millenium (USA Today) and a symbolic figurehead of spirituality.

With this potent combination of being one of the world’s most powerful and admired women, and an increasingly outspoken interest in spirituality, one cannot ignore what she has to say or endorse in the matter. If in any doubt about her influence in spiritual matters then consider a recent poll onbeliefnet.com, where 33% of respondents say that she had a more profound spiritual impact on them than their clergy persons. Indeed, author Marcia Nelson calls her today’s Billy Graham.

Purpose: My aim in writing this piece is not to get bogged down with conspiracy theories or damage Oprah’s credibility for no apparent reason. I am far more interested in matters related to God’s heart and that is to prevent people from perishing for a lack of knowledge. They say ‘what you don’t know won’t hurt you’. I say ‘what you don’t know will kill you’. So let’s get right into it and extract just a few of the false doctrines she is promoting either directly or through one of the courses she is promoting through her media empire.

False Doctrine #1 – “I myself am the ruler of the universe”. – Remember the lie that Satan told Eve about becoming like God if she ate the forbidden fruit? Well, the New Age spirituality that Oprah promotes is selling us the same lie today. When Marianne Williamson and Oprah taught A Course in Miracles as a daily program on XM Satellite Radio, they asked people in Lesson 191 to boldly declare that “I am the holy Son of God Himself.” The point of this was to apparently rid us of the illusion that we are humans and not deity like God. Other lessons in the course support this false claim of our deity.

For instance, lesson 70 teaches, “My salvation comes from me.” In lesson 61, we are asked to repeat the declaration, “I am the light of the world.” In ‘A New Earth’, another book promoted by Oprah, Eckhart Tolle writes, “God … is formless consciousness and the essence of who you are.” These courses are teaching us that we are like God Himself not in the biblical sense of being created in His image but being God ourselves. Perhaps this was more aptly represented in lesson 38 of ‘A Course in Miracles’, where we are asked to tell ourselves “There is nothing my holiness cannot do”.

Even more explicit in the deification of humans is The Secret by Rhonda Byrne. In it she writes, “You are God in a physical body. You are spirit in the flesh. You are eternal life expressing itself as you. You are a cosmic being. You are all-powerful. You are all wisdom. You are all intelligence. You are perfection. You are magnificence. You are the creator, and You are creating the creation of You on this planet.” Any guesses who she is referring to as You? It’s not God. She is referring to you and I in terms the bible reserves only for God Almighty. This is self-worship to a high degree. Who better illustrated this in the bible than Satan himself when he thought about taking God’s place in heaven (Isaiah 14:14).

The result was that God threw him out and brought him to the lowest point imaginable. The words of Satan to Eve in the garden are still echoing through the ages and causing people to fall: “You will be like God” he whispers, but in the end it is a lie. What does the bible say about this? Many things! But we’ll just settle for Isaiah 40:25-26 – 25To whom then will you liken Me, that I should be equal to him? says the Holy One. 26Lift up your eyes on high and see! Who has created these? He Who brings out their host by number and calls them all by name; through the greatness of His might and because He is strong in power, not one is missing or lacks anything.

False Doctrine #2 – There is salvation without Jesus. – Is Jesus Christ the Way, the Truth and the Life? Can no one come to the Father except through Him? That is what the bible says but not Oprah and her friends. In ‘A Course in Miracles’, the author writes, “The name of Jesus Christ as such is but a symbol. It is a symbol that is safely used as a replacement for the many names of all gods to which you pray”. Another part of the same book robs Christ of the atoning power of His blood which is a fundamental aspect of the Christian faith. The book says “Those who represent the lamb as blood stained do not understand the meaning of the symbol; it is a very simple symbol that speaks of my innocence.” The book claims that the idea of a sacrifice for sins is unknown to God.

What about the cross? Helen Schucman, author of ‘A Course in Miracles’ writes, “The journey to the cross should be the last useless journey. Do not dwell upon it, but dismiss it as accomplished … Do not make the pathetic error of clinging to the old rugged cross. Until you are free to crucify yourself as often as you choose … We have another journey to undertake, and if you will read these lessons carefully they will help you to undertake it.” Paul thinks of the cross rather differently. He writes in Galatians 6:14, “As for me, may I never boast about anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. Because of that cross,[a] my interest in this world has been crucified, and the world’s interest in me has also died.”

False Doctrine #3 – There is no such thing as sin. – These New Age teachings tell us that we are already perfect like God and are therefore sinless. According to ‘The Secret’, the cause of all the world’s problems is not sin but rather, bad thinking and a failure to fully mine the power of “the law of attraction”. Therefore, within every human lies the solution to their problems. We don’t need a “saviour” when we can save ourselves. Eckhart Tolle affirms this lie by declaring that ‘good’ and bad’ are merely mental labels that are illusions. Evil is therefore not real. It is only an illusion.

Lesson 337 in ‘A Course in Miracles says, “My sinlessness protects me from all harm”. The same lesson ends with a prayer affirming that “I was mistaken when I thought I sinned, but I accept atonement for myself.” If people believe this lie that sin is not real but is merely an illusion, there is no telling how far humanity will go in destroying itself. It is like taking the brakes off a speeding train. The bible clearly says that it is sin that separated mankind from God. If we deny that, we deny our need to be reconciled to Him through His Son and eternal damnation is the only result.

There are several more damaging false doctrines being promoted by Oprah and the New Age spiritualists but I will stop here and implore you to do some research for yourselves. In the grand scheme of things, we must remember that Oprah and these spiritualists are children of God who have lost their way and are dragging millions of others along with themselves to eternal damnation. They have been deceived and many others will follow them unfortunately. We must pray for them and stand for the truth when we are called to do so because God loves them and wants to see them saved. Proverbs 14:12 says, “There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.” In the face of increasing bombardment with false doctrines, one option we don’t have as Christians is to stay silent. We must speak the truth in love and let God do His thing.

As her talk-show comes to an end, the only tears I will be shedding will be for the countless number of souls that have ditched their faith in the real Jesus and the true faith to pursue the numerous fads promoted by Oprah and the New Age spiritualists. For more on this subject, I highly recommend my source of reference for this post, Erwin Lutzer’s ‘Oprah, Miracles and The New Earth’. I leave you with this video clip that summarises Oprah’s take on spirituality and the Christian faith. Look out for the lady that stands up for Christ in the face of a very intimidating atmosphere.

  • Why is Hollywood obsessed with u gly Negroes?

  • she is looked up to by millions of Americans across the United States for her successful ‘business’ career, she must be doing something “right” something the rest of us arent doing

    • Like selling one’s soul to Satan? Maybe that’s what she did like so many others, including many of her friends.

  • The term is heretic.

  • Have never given her the time of day nor would I ever. There is a combination of just too many objectionable things about her or should I say warning signals. Where was the connection for her to get her own show…. hmmm.
