A Snake in the House

An Israeli, around 27 years old, came up to me at the Kotel. He had already put on tefillin in the morning. He was quite concerned. He had a serious question. He told me that he lives with his Jewish girlfriend. They had a fight, even pushed each other, and then, when they returned to their apartment, they opened the door and there was a snake on the floor right in front of them. He had never seen such a thing before. He wanted to know if it was an evil sign from Hashem.
I told him everything comes for a reason. “The snake was in the Garden of Eden with Adam and Eve, too. In fact, the snake was the reason they got kicked out of the Garden! That snake was there to tell you something. You should separate for a month and see if you want to get back together. And if you do, then you have to do it in purity, in a holy way, with a ketubah (Jewish marriage contract) and the mikvah (spiritual emersion) and make a family, have children instead of just satisfying your animal inclination.”
He nodded that he understood. The snake had shaken him, and I think that he is going to pay attention to what I said. Maybe, in a couple of years, he will stop by with a baby to say thank you.
