Let your women keep silence in the churches– Is This The Law of Christ or of Men?

What are we to make of the verse, Let your women keep silence in the churches? Is this the Law of Christ or of men? This article will prove through the Word of God that women are not to be silent, and that those who hold to this viewpoint are deceived.

1 Cor 14:34-35  Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.

Rather that agreeing with the message in 1 Cor 14:34, Paul does indeed disagree as shown in the following verse.

1 Cor 14:36 What? came the word of God out from you? or came it unto you only?

Do men only speak the praises of the Lord, and does the Word of God only come to them?

Gal 3:27-29 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

Wherever two or more are gathered in Christ, He is there in the midst of them; this is the description of the Church. Let your women keep silence in the churches is a nonsensical statement.

Let your women keep silence in the churches, really?  What a preposterous notion!!

This editor happens to be a huge fan of Women! Some of the Godliest individuals he has met are indeed women.

1 Peter 3:15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

Women need to shake loose the shackles that ungodly deceived men have placed on them.

Spirit filled women need to be bold for Christ, and many men could learn of true unselfish Love through them!

The Strong’s breakdown of 1 Cor 14:34-35, as well as Scriptural context, and a little bit of common sense, should shed some light on this topic of apparent female subordination towards males. Women are to submit to God! Let your women keep silence in the churches is a false teaching and is contrary to even common sense.

The word Silence (G 4601) is used 12 times in the New Testament, and only once in connection to women or wives. Also it should be noted that Jesus never taught women to be silent.

1 Cor 14:34 34 (Let) <G4601> <G0> your <G5216> women <G1135> keep silence <G4601> in <G1722> the churches <G1577>: for <G1063> it is <G2010> <G0> not <G3756> permitted <G2010> unto them <G846> to speak <G2980>; but <G235>(they are commanded ) to be under obedience (or submission) <G5293>, as <G2531> also <G2532> saith <G3004> the law <G3551>.

Below we will examine several parts of this verse, as so many take it out of context.

– The word Let can be removed from this passage, as the word used here is one of silence.

So the verse does not really start off with an apparent command.

– Secondly this verse is referring to wives, as we see by looking at the following verse.

1 Cor 14:35 And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.

– The word your, is used in reference to an immediate audience. He does not say women, or all women but your women or wives.

– The phrase they are commanded to be under obedience needs to be changed to simply under obedience, again no command given.

The words, they are commanded, are added inappropriately.

Obedience has a meaning of submission.

Let’s look at the word obedience,or submission in scripture.

Eph 5:21-22 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God. Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.

We are to submit to each other in the Lord.

1 Peter 3:1-2 Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;  While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear.

The husband can be won over to Christ through a Godly wife. Her Godly submission can indeed cause her ungodly husband to submit to the Lord. Is she really to be involved in a Spiritual submission to her husband?

– The phrase as also saith the Law, seems to suggest that this is really the Word of God; but is it really?

Let your women keep silence in the churches

– The Law spoken of at the end of 1 Cor 14:34, does not refer to any Law of Christ -but is the law of men.

Paul was speaking to those who followed the talmudic law, or the oral traditions of men.

It was forbidden by Jewish traditions for women to speak in the synagogue.

For a intro into the truth about the talmud by Michael Hoffman click on this link below.

Gal 2:21  I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.

Our righteousness is in the New Law of Christ Jesus, through faith with the Baptism of the Holy Spirit.

Gal 5:3-6 For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law. Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace. For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith. For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.

Any man who thinks he is justified by the Old Law does not have the Grace of Christ!

Eph 2:15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandmentscontained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;

1 Peter 5:5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.

We are all to submit to each other in humility without preference.

But Spiritual submission is only for Jesus Christ.

1 Peter 5:3-4 Neither as being lords over God’s heritage, but being ensamples to the flock. And when the Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.

Mere man can not claim to be lord over the Spiritual things that are of and belong to Christ.

John 15:26-27 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:  And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.

Our teacher ultimately is the Holy Spirit that Christ sent to us. Once we have the infilling of His Spirit we can know truth, and these false teachers in the Christian Church are easily recognized as such.

Eph 5:21-25 Submitting yourselves (or be in obedience) one to another in the fear of God. Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the savior of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

The context of these verses in Ephesians chapter five, are in reference to honoring and truly loving one another. When a man and woman are married they become one flesh (Eph 5:31).

Using the phrase, Let your women keep silence in the churches, without the understanding that this was a talmudic false teaching, represents spiritual deception.

Eph 1:17-18 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,

Does the above verse pertain only to men? Are all not taught by the Holy Spirit through Christ Jesus?

Eph 1:22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church

Christ is the Head of All things (Spiritual) to the Church, and not man.

Col 2:9-10 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:

A woman should not authority over a man, but likewise neither should the man claim Spiritual authority over the woman.

1 Tim 2:12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.

Man is not the author of truth nor can he by himself fully understand truth. It is the Holy Spirit that shows us the truth, when we have submitted to the Lord and are in a position to receive it.

If we think we have the truth by or in ourselves, we through pride have already prevented the Spirit from abiding in us. This is exactly what the false teachers in the Christian Church are counting on.

1 Cor 2:13-14 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

The body of Christ is effective when it works together as one. The church is not to be controlled by any one man, as we are to serve each other and be led by Christ alone.

No individual can claim lordship over another – in the Lord as we all are laborers.

If there was to be a hierarchy in the church apart from Christ, He would have mentioned it at least once, but He does not!

For a detailed look at the word shepherd and the incorrect use of the word pastor that is inserted into Eph 4:11, click here, then scroll down to the verse, John 10:11.

John 10:11-12 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep.

Let your women keep silence in the churches

Jesus is the one that truly cares for us (John 10:13; 1 Peter 5:7).

As our Shepherd he feeds us with His Word, protects our minds with the Hope of Salvation, and guides us with the Spirit of truth.

Christ clearly stated that He alone is the Good Shepherd, He knows His elect and they know Him.

We can teach and evangelize with the Spirit of truth through Jesus, but are never to exercise spiritual authority over others. We all are sinners and fall short of the perfection of Christ.

Let your women keep silence in the churches – is a teaching contrary to the Word of God

Luke 22:24-26 And there was also a strife among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest. And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors. But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.

Christ is the head of the church and no man can legally take the title of Rabbi (that is to say Master) Father, or Shepherd.

Christ is our only master and Shepherd, and we are all brethren; we are not to call any man Father on earth our Father. Remember the Lord’s prayer, “Our Father who art in Heaven” (Math 23:8,9; Eph 1:22).

2 Tim 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

2 Tim 4:3-4 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables

Here are a few more verses to consider, regarding women in the Church.

Acts 18:26 And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly.

Acts 21:8-9 And the next day we that were of Paul’s company departed, and came unto Caesarea: and we entered into the house of Philip the evangelist, which was one of the seven; and abode with him.9 And the same man had four daughters, virgins, which did prophesy.

In the verse below Paul himself speaks of Phebe a sister in Christ who was a deaconess.

Romans 16:1 I commend unto you Phebe our sister, which is a servant of the church which is at Cenchrea:

Phil 4:3 And I intreat thee also, true yokefellow, help those women which laboured with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and with other my fellowlabourers, whose namesare in the book of life.

In closing what are we to make of these Old Testament sayings?

Do women not partake in these commandments?

Let the redeemed of the Lord say so.

Praise ye the Lord.

Make a joyful noise unto the Lord.

Declare His doings among the people.

Let everything that hath breath praise the Lord.

  • Be filled with Paul’s spirit, follow Paul, abide in Paul and he in you, keep Paul’s words and commands_sick , sick, and sicker, and those who claim to follow Yhshua just keep drinking Paul_sick.

There are some around here that could give you a good list of errors in Paul’s letters, and you could spend the rest of your time in apologistics, and showing how they aren’t errors, but just misunderstandings. Have fun with that, hope you find some time with Yhshua’s words, hope you have time left to actually look at Yhshua’s words.

If a believer was told by our Father how much time they had left in this life, would they spend it with Yhshua and His words ???, or with some one else like Paul ?

Paul is basically on ignore, He is NOT the Covenant, Yhshua is_who is only qualified to reveal to us Truth of Him, the Covenant.

The New Covenant is in “Yhshua’s” Blood.
