Hundreds lose food stamps with no warning

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Hundreds of families are without food stamps and other federal benefits in Cobb, Douglas and Cherokee counties because an increased demand for assistance has created a backlog of paperwork, the Georgia Department of Human Services said Thursday.

Jennifer Bartrum holds her 2-year-old son, Brandon, while waiting for her turn to talk to DFACS workers Thursday afternoon in Cobb County. Bartrum told the AJC she lost her job and then her benefits were cut.
