This week a consortium of conservation groups filed a lawsuit against the Bureau of Land Management after it gave approval for a 5-year permit to allow wolf and coyote killing contests on public lands near Salmon, Idaho.

Specifically, starting with a predator killing derby scheduled for Jan. 2-4, 2015.

Wolves and coyotes are apex predators needed to keep balance in healthy ecosystems that could be overrun with other animals, big and small, without being kept in check.

The groups suing the BLM include WildEarth Guardians, Western Environmental Law Center, White Clouds Council and Cascadia Wildlands.  MOREHERE
