This week a consortium of conservation groups filed a lawsuit against the Bureau of Land Management after it gave approval for a 5-year permit to allow wolf and coyote killing contests on public lands near Salmon, Idaho.
Specifically, starting with a predator killing derby scheduled for Jan. 2-4, 2015.
Wolves and coyotes are apex predators needed to keep balance in healthy ecosystems that could be overrun with other animals, big and small, without being kept in check.
