A Malware is said to have infected over 5 million Android mobile devices using the purposefully corrupted apps available in the Android market place, reported by security firm Symantec. Code-named as ‘Android Counterclank’, the malware is considered to be a Trojan, which steals data from the devices and is capable of downloading additional malicious files. If the reports by Symantec are to be believed, it has been identified that the Trojan houses in 13 different apps sold in the Android market place.
“For each of these malicious applications, the malicious code has been grafted on to the main application in a package called ‘apperhand’,” Symantec posted on its blog. “When the package is executed, a service with the same name may be seen running on a compromised device. Another sign of an infection is the presence of the Search icon above on the home screen.”
