The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has come out and announced that after all, the Chevy Volt is not prone to catching fire. This comes a year after one of the all electric cars catching fire during a side impact test. After the incident, the car came under serious scrutiny. In addition, GM also offered a buyback program for all Volt owners who were concerned that their cars might immolate suddenly.
The company also went ahead to make changes to the Volt’s coolant system, which is said to have set things right. Now, the NHTSA has stated that the Volt has no discernable defect trends and that the revisions made by GM reduced the potential for battery intrusion resulting from side impacts. Chevy also dropped the price of the Volt by about 1,000 dollars. All in all, a car that starts at only 39,000 dollars and has a reduced chance of burning people to death is most likely one that can persuade them to go electric.
