As the focus on Nintendo’s upcoming console the Wii U builds higher, the company makes things more interesting with the announcement of a new feature for its tablet controller. “Near Field Communication” or NFC is a feature that allows the controller to scan real world objects and upload their likeness into the Wii U’s virtual world.
According to Nintendo, this feature also allow users to scan credit cards and use their digital replicas for micro-payments. ”With this feature it will become possible to create cards and figurines that can electronically read and write data via non-contact NFC and to expand the new play format in the video game world, says a representative of Nintendo. “Adoption of this functionality will enable various other possibilities such as using it as a means of making micro-payments.”
There is still a lot to learn about the NFC feature, but right now the possibilities seem endless. Also, Nintendo will have plenty of time to provide more features for the tablet controller as the console won’t be released until Holiday 2012.
The NFC function isn’t the only new feature coming to the Wii U. Yesterday, Nintendo revealed the “Nintendo Network,” an online service for the console that is on par with that of PSN and XBox Live.
