The Lawless Orange County Chopper Rocket, ridden by Larry “Spiderman” McBride, pulled off more than a world record electric drag racing run for a motorcycle, but for electric dragsters of all types by getting better than 200 miles per hour.
The Rocket became the first electric drag racing vehicle to break a 6-second quarter mile and go over 200mph, putting it in more than one record book. So far, it’s the only National Electric Drag Racing Association (NEDRA) vehicle to enter the NEDRA 200 mph Club.
The official record-winning run was 6.94 seconds at 201.37mph and was done, amazingly, on a new tire and near mid-day. The bike sports a new battery pack built by Derek Barger at High Tech Systems and is a 250lb, 355V lithium pack with 14.2kWh. The motor used on the Rocket is a 13-inch GE with a 4,000 amp Zilla controller custom-designed for the motorcycle.
