If there’s one thing most people will agree upon, it’s that they’re not paid enough at work. Apple on the other hand is always portrayed as this uber fair, idyllic place to work; a place that pays more than the average corporation, gives more and better benefits, and simply provides an atmosphere that is unrivaled. But even Apple Store employees liken themselves to you and I, and on a recent company-wide survey indicated they felt underpaid.
Apple apparently listened. Business Insider is reporting that a source of theirs claims a $4/hr. raise is coming to all Apple Store retail employees beginning July 20th. The claim is so far unconfirmed, though, would be a huge deal if proven true. When we’re talking an average hourly rate of $9-$12(ish) dollars, an extra $4/hr. raise is massive.
For comparison’s sake, BI says the average New York Apple Store retail specialist nets $13-$14/hr. After the alleged rate increase, the same employee will be looking at a cool $17-$18/hr. Not bad, eh?
We’ll remain on the “skeptical” side of the fence until Apple (or someone else) makes things a bit more official. $4/hr by itself for a store or two is a pretty big increase in payout, but an entire company of tens of thousands of hourly employees? Yeah, seems a bit “off”.
