The shutter sound on BlackBerry smartphones have been around since the BlackBerry Pearl 8100 which was RIM’s first device with a camera built-in. I’m sure many of you can agree that the sound can be quite annoying in many case scenarios. You’re somewhere in public and want to tweet a picture but don’t want the world around you to know what you’re up to. Maybe you’re just annoyed with the sound in general. There’s an application called Silent Camera which disables that shutter sound you hate the most when taking a picture.
Now here’s the catch- the application will take photos in the screen resolution of your device. For example, if you have a BlackBerry Bold 9900, the application will take pictures in 640 x 480 resolution, get it? It’s a third party app you have to use as the native Camera application remains untouched. Might be a bummer for those trying to take higher resolution photos, but it works wonders for those who are constantly uploading to Facebook and Twitter. The app seems to have been removed from BlackBerry App World, but the folks over at EightyBerry have an OTA link to download it directly.
